Perfect Summer Product

I am the kind of person who always thought I was going to die if I didn't have my full coverage foundation, but lately I have been noticing the more coverage of a foundation you have on, the more obvious it is. I always looked cakey, gross, and just not the way I wanted (Flawless skin that looked like it was all natural). So I turned to a worker at Sephora and told her I wanted something light, but will cover myacne scars, redness, and not melt off myface during the hot summer days. She quickly pointed to the Stila Tinted Moisturizer. I was really skeptical because it is a tinted moisturizer, so I just asked for a sample. I have been using this sample for a few days and I ABSOLUTELY am in love with it already!!! It gives a nice coverage (enough to cover my redness), not oily (obviously since its oil free), blends in sooo easily, and looks natural!!! I mean I do have to put on concealer to cover my acne scars but besides that this tinted moisturizer has completely made me a believer that sheer coverage is actually better than full coverage. It looks like my real skin, perfect color match, and not cakey what-so-ever!! I am sooooo happy with this product, I just ordered the full size! If the Sephora chick never showed me this I would never have given it the time of day just because I never cared for Stila, and quite frankly I HATE their packaging ((soooooo cheapy looking)), but this product is just perfect for me :-) « less

Very bad.

I was very excited to receive this product based on all the great reviews. However, I was in for a disappoitment. The moisturizer is not moisturizing at all. Maybe if I had oily skin, my experience would have been different. But as someone with moderately dry skin, this was incredibly drying. Additionally, the product was very difficult to apply and blend. It felt heavy and looked obvious--not at all like tinted moisturizer, more like a cheap foundation. Now for the color: this is not for people with pale skin! I have very fair, porcelain skin, and the lightest shade looked yellow on me. After just one layer of the product, the difference between the color of my face and the rest of my body and hands was obvious even in unnatural lighting.

Great Tinted Moisturizer!

I prefer light coverage, and set out to find a new tinted moisturizer when Boscia's was discontinued last year. Tried Boscia BB cream (way too dark and orange, had a weird texture and did not blend well), Tarte (broke me out), Smashbox (no coverage), Laura Mercier (it was okay, but overall nothing special and the sun protection is not great), Dior (too dark for my light skin)... Stila won! I use LIGHT and it doesn't oxidize on my light skin with yellow undertones. When the weather got cold, for some reason my pores became super obvious... pulled out this TM and there’s a tremendous improvement! I am going to use it all-year round. This product also adds a GLOW! I like to add a little concealer and matte bronzer on top, but the glow is still visible. It really does add just enough color to even out the skintone. I even use this under my eyes – huge bonus – it’s the only product I’ve ever used that doesn’t cake under my eyes! Tip: unless your skin is very oily, you probably need another moisturizer underneath. In my experience, this is true for ALL tinted moisturizers. TM’s are still makeup, and not true moisturizers. Very nice product! « less

Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20, Medium, 1 ea Review: Ranked on Best Tinted Moisturizer For Combination Skin

For an oil-free tinted moisturizer suitable for combination skin, Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 is a great option because it's light, sheer, and moisturizing. This water-resistant formula comes in nine natural-looking shades to complement all complexions and undertones. These luminous shades also contain light-diffusing particles that subdue the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Ginger root extract, chamomile, and gingko biloba leaf extract provide antioxidant protection while SPF 20 shields your skin against sun damage. Lastly, Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer goes on very smoothly, melting into your skin and then drying down to a flawless, matte finish that lasts all day.

Best for sheer coverage and sensitive dry skins

I almost gave up on this product over a color issue. Several years ago I purchased the Light shade for my fair skin but noticed that the color is now too yellowy-gold on my face. So I decided to go for the Bare considering the color order Sephora shows for the product. The way the shades are laid out here, it would lead one to conclude that Bare is the shade between Fair and Light, when on the Stila website, they list the shades in the order Bare, Fair, and Light. In testing at the store, it does appear that the whitish cast of bare that I experienced on my own skin really is suited to porcelain skin tones, while Fair blends better for light skin tones. I would never have thought to opt for Fair going by color grid here or by the name. I am usually the second lightest color down in a few different lines. In Laura Mercier's oil free tinted moisturizer, my shade is Nude. So the point of all this --go in to the store and get matched to your ideal shade. The rep was so helpful when I brought back my tube of bare...she tested light on me and agreed that oxided immediately to be too yellow, and she decided the fair might be a match. If it wasn't for her help I wouldn't have even tried that shade. While it was hard for me to see, she could tell that it blended perflectly and was not oxidizing as others were doing when she applied to my jawline. So thankful she helped to get me to the right shade...these folks really do know their stuff and can save you a lot of time and aggravation. I sampled quite a few different tinted moisturizers before happily settling on Stila as no others delivered the sparkle-free, sheer coverage I needed with the light moisture and non chemical SPF I also considered to be top priorities. I road tested all of the following: Tarte's Amazonian Clay tinted moisturizer, Too Faced Beauty Balm, Clinique's City Block SPF, and an old former favorite, Laura Mercier's oil free tinted moisturizer. So why is this the best? Well, if you have super reactive dry skin like me and want a little SPF protection, there is nothing like the combo of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. I can't wear chemical sunscreens as they make me break out. This product is not as moisturizing as I'd like, but when I wash it off at night my skin is smooth and looks hydrated and even. When I sampled Tarte's Amazonian Clay BB tinted moisturizer, I was shocked when I took it off at night at my skin was completely shriveled and dehydrated with that drawn wrinkled look it gets when it is starved for moisture. So I suggest dry skins stay away from that. When I tried Too Faced Beauty Balm (both Tarte and Too Faced products mentioned here have a mineral based sunscreen) their limited selection had nothing to match my skin tone and the formulation had those annoying glitter particles in it. And Clinique was white, drying, chalky and managed to break me out as well. Stila's oil-free tinted moisturizer is sheer but buildable and it does not have any sparkles in which is a big plus for me. I can't understand why manufacturers think people want glitter in their sheer coverage tinted moisturizer. I definitely need a moisturizer under this, but normal to oily skin shouldn't really, except perhaps in winter. I am making a switch after several years of using Laura Mercier's oil free tinted moisurizer mainly due to the fact that it does not provide UVA coverage even though it claims to be broad spectrum, and this product does. That is otherwise also a great product, but the lower cost, better UVA protection and more skin friendly ingredients make this my preferred choice. « less
