not shedding

the newer version is a bit more dense and from what i've heard much harder to clean, but this one is the perfect balance between soft and dense, it's super easy to clean, it buffs out my foundation and concealer like a dream and gives me a beautiful airbrushed finish, even when i tried it with kat von d's lock-it foundation, which if you've tried that you know it's almost impossible to get a fully natural finish because of the formula

I liked this brush at first and purchased it before going on a trip for Christmas 2014. Less than 9 months later, the shedding was so bad I had to throw it away. I've had cheaper brushes that lasted 5 years and this one couldn't last just 1. I did not overuse or over wash the brush and mainly used it with the naked foundation it is meant for, therefore I am disappointed that this brush did not stand up to my expectations or considerable care in trying to prolong the life of this brush. The bristles were also very rough, not at all the softness I've come to expect of a higher quality brush... Again, it was just a big letdown.

When Urban Decay released the original optical blurring brush with the Naked Skin foundation, they were marketed as the ultimate combo. I went to pick up the original brush but they were sold out so the sales associate sold me a Sephora dupe that was actually more expensive and it wasn't great. Anyway, fast forward to 2016 when UD releases its pro line of brushes and I finally get my hands on this baby! This brush applies and blends out foundation beautifully and so quickly. I just have to buff more carefully between my eyebrows since that's where my make up tends to break down first and this area is narrower than the brush. It uses less product than a beauty blender because the brush doesn't soak it up and I find it provides better coverage. So far, I've used it with Naked Skin, All Nighter, Lock It and Fit Me, all with the same conclusion. The brush has a good weight to it and the bristles are so soft. I've not had any shedding in the 3 months I've had it with regular cleaning. Love UD's commitment to making cruelty-free products made from recycled materials that look and perform well. « less

Dense, sturdy synthetic brush

I needed a new foundation so earlier today I went to Sephora, and out of all the foundations I tested, I liked the Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Foundation the most (light weight, smooth, didn't crease, even coverage, blended in well, natural looking finish, didn't highlight unevenness of skin). I thought what the heck since I'm splurging to get the perfect foundation, might as well get a brush too (I've been using my hands up til now and at $25, this brush is better than comparable ones at Sephora). BEST DECISION EVER. This brush is fantastic. I was worried that it'd shed on my face or eat up my foundation but that was nowhere close to what happened. This brush is very sturdy, the bristles are tightly packed, soft, but hard enough to hold shape. It's synthetic, which I like since it's non-porous and easy to clean. I like the cool heavy feel of the metal handle. I haven't had a problem with it eating my foundation as I feared. I just swipe streaks of foundation onto the most important parts of my face (forehead, nose, cheeks, chin) like it's warpaint and use the brush to blend it all in. I didn't notice any product being lost in the process. The bristle tips move everything around but they don't drink it up. The foundation ends up looking very even (thick enough for coverage, thin enough to feel / look good) and blends seamlessly into my skin. It's much faster and more even than using using fingers. The effect looks very natural. It looks like my skin, just without all the redness and discoloration. I was able to hide my acne scars pretty well even without a concealer. When I do use concealer, I have the line smoothing one from Clinique which is oilier, yellower, and thicker than my UD foundation (didn't buy UD concealer bc I hate sharpening pencils). I dabbed it on and this brush blended it in like a champ while leaving a good amount on the needed areas. Can't even tell where I had concealer on. The only complaint I might have is the tacky cardboard and plastic cylindrical packaging this comes in. I couldn't put the brush back inside without ruining the hairs so now I have to find some other way to store it. « less

perfect for blending

Caveat: I generally only wear concealer, so I can't attest to this brush's performance with foundation. But it's sheer perfection when it comes to blending out my concealer and creating a really natural, flawless finish. The bristles are densely packed and the brush doesn't shed, even if I wash it a little overzealously. The handle is comfortable and a nice length; I can lean toward my mirror while blending without worrying about the end of the brush whacking against the mirror. It's a little pricey (or maybe I'm a little cheap) but I consider it well worth the $25 for its excellent performance and durability.

Great Foundation Brush!

I love using this brush to apply my liquid foundation! It blends my foundation so evenly and it's super soft against my sensitive skin. My foundation almost looks airbrushed! The bristles are dense and picks up the pigment well. This is great for applying other makeup too. This is definitely one of my favorite brushes!
