You had me at the name...

This was my first Tarte purchase other than foundation and I had no idea what to expect with their other products. This seemed like a good way to try various items from the brand without breaking the bank. Let's start off with saying that I absolutely love the name "Rain Forest After Dark" and the snake that is on it... if I wasn't already sucked in by that, then it was the amazing blush color that got me. The eye shadows are super pigmented, soft, and buildable/blendable. They all compliment one another and the face products included. It's neutrals with a fun twist. For my skin tone, there is a good mix with light, transition, and smokey shades along with the fun purple and gold color pops to bring it alive. The bronzer and blush are a dream to put on and look great all day. The only small issue I seem to have with the palette is the face highlighter has hard pan with a small section in the top corner. I just go to the other side of the pan and use it from there as it's fine in that section. No one else seems to have complain about this, so I assume I just got a weird one. This palette is absolutely worth the money and is a great travel item as it has all of your face products in one place. I can't get enough of it and am so glad I tried it- best birthday present to myself! « less

Powder kick up, not pigmented

I'm not sure why this is so highly rated. Perhaps because it is at a good price point and because it is good for traveling? The quality just isn't there. The highlighter is pretty but you really have to rub your fingers into the pan to get enough product onto your skin. My brushes couldn't pick it up. The bronzer is too light for contouring. The formula of the bronzer was the best though. Very smooth and creamy. The eye shadows were the worst. They are chalky, powdery, tons of kicked up powder all over the case too every time I use it. The dark colours don't blend well and went on patchy for me. Also the purple isn't nearly as beautiful or dark or true purple on the skin as it appears in the palette. The gold however is beautiful and applies very nicely for a metallic. Keep in mine it's more of a sheer metallic. If you have Asian skin tone beware that the purple looked a bit bruisey on me. Finally I didn't like the cheap harsh edges of the plastic packaging. It looks and feels cheap to me although the closure seems quite sturdy. Although this really is great for traveling, containing almost everything you need for the face and eyes, I wouldn't want to wear or use these shadows while on vacation... « less

Drop Dead Gorgeous!

The colors are stunning- beautiful jewel tones of amethyst and gold. Especially gorgeous on green or hazel eyes and are a standout on fair or light skin. They play well with the more neutral shades in the palette which are great for crease, liner and transition blending. I find the eyeshadows have great pigment and blend easily. The contour/bronzer shade is natural looking on light skin and pulls toward the cool side. I like the highlighter, which accents without being glitzy (I also use it as under brow highlight and at the inner corner of the eye). I can see where some have had issues with the blush. It is not very pigmented and is quite subtle, although it layers well and you can build up to whatever level of color you want. For me, it's great because a normal application looks natural with my fair skin. Too much pigment makes me look clownish. Overall, a huge thumbs up! I am going to order a spare in case this really IS limited edition. Great job Tarte! « less

Perfect travel palette

I am a compulsive over- packer, but I managed to bring only this, some foundation and concealer on two trips this month and it was a huge success. This palette is really impressive, from the packaging to the color selection to the quality of the products inside. The blush is pigmented and a near- universally flattering shade, and the highlighter is now one of my favorites- provides a soft but noticeable glow without looking like a glitterbomb. The bronzer is matte, which is nice, but will work on a smaller range of skin tones than the rest of the palette- it's a bit dark for my fair skin, and I imagine that it wouldn't show up well on women with skin deeper than light- medium. For me, using a light hand a blending it out only around the edges of my face made it workable. The eyeshadows are great, there's enough versatility here for day and night looks and the colors do not get muddy when blended. I was particularly impressed by that gold color- gold eyeshadows can be really glittery and prone to fallout, but this one is thick and has an almost creamy consistency that stays put. This palette was an excellent investment and I'm getting tons of use out of it at home and on the go. « less

Still in love after 2 weeks!

The Rainforest palette was a no brainer --it is made by Tarte, so I know it will be good, it is full of plummy mid tone warm neutrals, I love Tarte blushes, I love all in one compacts you can toss in your purse. Rainforest is a well-rounded, throw in your purse travel kind of palette, by throw I do mean throw! I put this ROUND palette on the shelf with my other palettes that I store like books and it rolled off and crashed onto the hard wood floor ~~ all shadows and mirror intact! The bronzer does not pull orange at all on my pale pale skin. I don't like bronzers and this one is a subtle non shimmery pale warm caramel and can double duty it as as a transition eyeshadow as can the blush. The blush a pale muted rosy pink -- not peachy. The highlighter is really not crazy shimmery -- it is a highlighter though and again can double duty as your inner corner high light or brow high light. There is nothing orangey about this palette. The darkest shadow, Don't Turn A Brown, is dark enough to use as an eye liner or retouch your eyeliner mid-day. Your whole look is in this palette -- and you can create a variety of looks from work day no make up look to a smoked out purple brown-- and having a nice purse friendly disc ( 4 1/2 " diameter --fits perfect in the palm of your hand) is always a plus. The package design is fine, not super lux and not total tack, but practical. The mirror is the size of the palette and stands on it's own when you open the palette so you can use it hands free = travel friendly if you need to use the mirror and both hands! The shadows are a nice mix of mattes (3), shimmer- mild glitter (2) and one full on pigmented metallic gold: "Up to No Gold" I have had no issue with the palest color, Bare to Explore and payoff, it's not the lightest of lights for a palette but works and you can always add that highlighter to it if you want a lighter shadow although it won't be matte. The dark purple shade, Plum away with Me is a reddish deep plum with very subtle bits of gold glitter as does the paler plum, Make a Mauve have. The Rainforest is your plummy, brown, soft neutral palette that I guess runs warm, but not too warm, i.e. NOT orangey! So my final answer is I don't think it is the same as other neutral palettes, but it is a neutral palette ~~~ plummy warm brown gold palette worth adding to your collection if you are a collector like so many of us ~~ definitely worth adding even if you are not a collector! The quality is great: pigmentation, color payoff, longevity, creamy smooth products that blend easily. (If it matters I am 46, fair complexion, reddish brown hair (the red would be dye and a little of my Mom's genes), and no clue as to yellow or pink toned, I feel like both??, so I always go with neutral BB's, foundations, tinted moisturizers and seems to suite me well. I lean towards cooler taupey colors -- not blues at all, but plummy gray browns, some with bits of warmth and roses, golds ~~ just not so into the orange thing.) Hope this helps with your decision if you are unable to go to Sephora and see the palette in person. Enjoy your purchase whatever that may be!! « less
