Light-Medium Neutral

I have sensitive, combination-oily acne-prone skin. I've been wanting a powder foundation with good coverage for every-day use. I currently use a pressed powder, but it doesn't give as much coverage as I'd like it to, and I can't be bothered with liquid foundation on a daily basis. I tried this one out because so many people are raving about it. I initially purchased the Medium Neutral, but it is much too dark and orange on my NC-30-ish skin tone. Exchanged it for the Light-Medium Neutral, which is still a touch too dark and orange on me. I used the accompanying brush, which fits perfectly over the mesh opening. I've tried this over bare skin, over moisturized skin, and over a primer (over primer was best for me). I just can't seem to make it blend evenly. It patched up on my skin and refused to smooth out to an even finish. I tried buffing and then stippling, and then I tried a flat top kabuki brush. It caught on dry patches of my face. I had to set it with powder because the coverage wouldn't last and it did very little oil control. I think it has nice medium coverage, but I will be returning this product because it is patchy and uneven on my skin. It is not the quick and easy powder foundation I am looking for. Two stars for the coverage, unique packaging, and for not irritating my skin. Be wary of the strong orange lean in the shades. « less

Best long-wearing solution for oily skin

This spring and summer my skin was extremely oily (I was 21-22), and I subsequently started having a lot of acne problems and scarring. I was already using tarte amazonian clay liquid foundation, and a primer, and my make up would not stick throughout the day and I wished I had a little more coverage. Apparently this is a rarity. To avoid spending money I was using a drugstore powder on top but decided to add this powder to the combo. I first used the light beige and it was so orange, and now am using fair-light neutral. This powder adds additional coverage to the liquid foundation (already full coverage for people with better skin than mine) to really get me the coverage I need. The first hour with this on, your skin looks absolutely amazing and people will probably envy your skin if not already. It still lasts all day, but you just look more like a normal person :). My skin changed since fall, and really isn't that oily anymore. These products still look great and last even longer now that I have combination skin. Although when my skin was oily things still weren't perfect, this make-up is the absolute best solution I've found so far and made me feel more confident. If you have oily skin, definitely couple this with liquid and you'll be set. I used it with Too Faced Primer, after switching from Smashbox... don't use smashbox although it has amazing reviews-- really isn't compatible with the amazonian clay line and oily skin. « less

Great setting powder for acne scars/ breakouts

I’ve been using this powder as a setting powder for the last couple of years. I require a little extra coverage due to acne scars and I love a flawless finish. While I have dry skin, I do get oily in my t zone, especially during ovulation or my cycle. This powder is perfect for me because it covers, doesn’t look caked on, and stays put. I sometimes use a concealer brush to pick up product and spot cover any blemishes before powdering my whole face. This blurs imperfections really well.I am giving this powder 5 stars anyway, but what truly makes it 5 stars is the method in which I set this powder. I keep a 4oz bottle of rose water with around 2 tsp vegetable glycerin in my makeup bag. I use enough glycerin to make a milky looking rosewater when shaken, but not enough to leave my skin tacky when dry. I use it as a setting spray, shaking well before each use. After applying my liquid foundation with my beauty blender, I set with my tarte airbrushed powder with a brush, and then liberally spray my fine mist rose water and glycerin. I have a nifty mini fan that attaches to my iPhone and I use that to quickly dry my face before applying high lighter and blush. If I have a long day ahead or it’s humid or hot outside, I’ll have another quick spritz on top of my blush/highlighter to lock it in. I like to lock in my foundation prior to blush/highlighter because they’re powders and I don’t like to potentially move foundation around. This trick has given me a smooth, glowy from within look that I get complimented on daily. This powder can look too matte and flat without it. But, I couldn’t achieve this look without this clay based powder foundation.I also like having a few shades on hand. I go from fair light Nuetral to medium neutral and use a lighter shade to set my concealer under my eyes. No creases and it blends out so well. Less

I will admit its a bit of a learning curve with this stuff in terms of how you apply it. At first it applied really patchy and I applied way too much of it and it looked cakey and awful, but once I got the hang of using it this foundation was brilliant for me as someone who really hates wearing liquid or cream foundations on a regular basis. I have a very oily T-zone and I found that with a mattifying primer and/or the de-slick spray that I barely had to touch my makeup for the entire day I would be out. (and that included 8 hours of class and then events until 3am sometimes). That being said, I would definitely say that this isn't a full coverage foundation. It was perfect for me, as I don't have blemished skin and this evened my skintone out beautifully without looking like I even had anything on, although I think anything beyond 1 and a half to 2 layers, at least on me, made it look really caked on, especially at the day wore on. Its also great because its one you can wear without other face makeup, which is rare with a foundation. Because it still looks like skin, you don't even have to pair it with any other face makeup if you don't want to. It doesn't look flat or bizzare alone and I have worn this foundation alone with literally no other makeup many a time. The other thing I would mention is the colour. try it on in store and look at it in natural light before you buy it. I have a yellow undertone and I got it in medium tan sand and it is really quite yellow. I use fake tanner so it isn't so much of a big deal but I definetly couldn't get away with wearing this without a fake tan. Just keep in mind that these foundations are really heavily pigmented in the undertone department. Overall, I would say that this is a great everyday foundation for people with normal to oily combination skin who don't want "flawless" coverage. « less

Amazing brand, amazing powder coverage

I started using Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation a couple of weeks ago. I loved that product and was since then curious to try this one together with it. I purchased this at my local Ulta store a few days ago and have worn in it in different ways just to see its performance. I am a Tarte girl forever! I loved it by itself, with a cc cream under and on top of the tarte foundation. I have sensitive combination skin, oily in my t-zone and some normal-dry patches on my cheeks and chin, so it's typically challenging for me to find a good foundation for my skin type and my skin tone (I am a light olive-yellow, nc25 in MAC). I've been using MAC for a while, but now at age 28, it seems to not do so well on my skin anymore (keep in mind that as we age, what worked for you before may not work for you later). I started breaking out and didn't like how my skin felt during the day. I decided I needed to change my foundation routine. What's so great about Tarte is that it's natural ingredients don't affect my skin negatively, instead I feel they improving my skin. This powder doesn't crease on my smile lines or on those dry patches (when they're not as moisturized), but I do believe in a skincare regimen first, a good primer and then makeup. My color in this Is Light Sand and it's perfect!! I start seeing a bit of oiliness on my t-zone after about 5-6 hours of wear, which says a lot for me! Even though I do blot, it's not a lot of oil and I feel this powder has done the best job so far in controlling it out of all my past powders (realistically, you can't make the oil of your skin disappear for good, and anyway, a little bit of oil isn't a bad thing at all). Anyway, I really recommend this line/product for anyone who wants a matted, longwear, medium-full coverage powder foundation to wear alone or pair it with a liquid/cream foundation. « less
