"pros:- makes eye shadows appear more vibrant- if you have oily eyelids i think this would be great because i've noticed that it does a good job of controlling oil- prevents creasing- prevents fading- eye shadow blends better- makes anything you apply over it smudge-proof- it's thin and lightweight so you really can't tell there's anything on your eyelids- it's fragrance free- it has never irritated my eyes- eye shadow still looks great at the end of a 12 hour daycons:- if you apply this to dry skin it can emphasize the dryness, so maybe this isn't the best option for people with dry eyelids- that's literally all- this stuff is amazing-"

"i was so happy that it exceeded my expectationsthis eye primer is light wight, easy to apply, drys in seconds and once you pop your eye shadow on, it will not budge"

Drying, not longlasting
I bought this eye primer as I was fed up with the Urban Decay primer going back to a wand applicator and the formula didn't seem as good anymore. I decided to try this NARS primer, despite it also having a wand, as it has such good reviews. The wand takes up the whole tube. There is not much actual product in the tube which is ridiculous considering the price. The primer dries quickly to a powder-like finish, which I loved. I also felt it brings out the colour of the shadow, makes it look brighter and more pigmented than it would by itself. But the staying power is AWFUL. It's non-existent. Even with my best and longest-lasting eyeshadows, this stuff has them creasing after about only 4 hours and the shadow is almost completely GONE after 8 hours. Will be returning.

I originally bought this primer back in November of last year (2010). It is now mid-June, and I am still continuously impressed with this eyeshadow primer; I literally cannot go a day without it.First off, I have absurdly oily skin, including eyelids. I have the kind of skin where it will be shiny immediately after washing it: not fun. Up until this past year, I just didn't wear eyeshadow on a daily basis because it wasn't worth it for me; when your eyeshadow creases immediately after application, what's the point? I am a huge NARS devotee, though, and when I saw that they were releasing an eyeshadow primer, I decided to give it a shot and see if it lived up to the hype. This primer exceeded my expectations and more, and it does everything it claims to do.The pros: this primer LASTS. Seriously. I went to bed one night after working on an honors thesis all night and was too tired to take off my makeup, and I woke up the next day with my eyeshadow still in place. I can go for TWO DAYS without my eyeshadow creasing or fading substantially, and that's quite a feat for my skin. This primer is also consistently good: it gives me the exact same performance every time I've worn it, absolutely no difference. Application is a breeze: it has a doefoot applicator, and then I just blend with my fingers. I personally don't find that this primer dries too quickly; in fact, I think it has a perfect dry-down time (maybe 5-6 seconds tops). I also find that this primer works well with all eyeshadow brands. I can use everything from NARS to Urban Decay to Covergirl to L'Oreal. I don't use drugstore brand eyeshadow very often, but when I do with this primer, it helps them look their best; with higher-end brands, it makes them look as brilliant and beautiful as they do in the pan, and just generally enhances them. I don't need much to make my eyeshadow stay in place - a smallish dot on each eyelid is enough for me. I find that blending eyeshadow with this primer on is significantly easier and just looks better overall. Finally, the texture is perfect: it's not oily at all, very light but creamy, and you never feel it on your eyelids, not heavy at all.I tend to like this more than Urban Decay's PP, just because I find that eyeshadow blends easier with the NARS primer, and I also find that Urban Decay's original, even though it's supposed to be colorless, sometimes looks a little white on my lids, whereas NARS is always colorless. I find that with Urban Decay's PP, you really have to blend it in well, whereas with NARS, blending is minimal, which I feel also prolongs the primer and, therefore, the eyeshadow itself. This all just may be due to the fact that my skin is SO oily, but if you have super-oily lids and find that not much else works for you, give NARS a shot and see if it can help you out.The cons: only one, and it's pretty minor: you can't see how much is left in the tube. The tube itself is matte white, so you can't see what's inside. However, I've had the same tube since late November and don't anticipate running out of this anytime soon, so I know that they must put in a decent amount in each tube. Don't be put off if you take out the applicator and don't see a ton of primer on the doefoot - the doefoot itself is white, so the primer blends in with the color of the actual doefoot and makes it look as if there isn't a ton of primer on the applicator when, in fact, there is. If you find that this primer really isn't working that well for you, try using less: you really don't need a lot of product with this primer, so try starting out with just a little and work your way up if you find it's not working that well for you.All in all, an absolute HG product for me. I absolutely need this everyday and use it constantly in my makeup routine. It keeps my eyeshadow from creasing and makes them look fabulous, all while being extremely long-lasting. If you have oily lids, or just find that other primers don't really do it for you, definitely give this a try! « less

This product is true to it's name. I have been using Urban Decay's Primer Potion for quite some time now. It was the best one that I've used, second being Too Faced Shadow Insurance (surprise, surprise). A friend of mine introduced me to this product, and it blew them away.I have very oily lids (which is ironic since I have dry skin), so not using a eyesadow primer isn't in the cards. This primer beats the others in pretty much every category. The packaging is a lot nicer, in my opinion. Urban Decay's primer was a 'genie bottle' style, and now they've changed to a tube, and Too Faced primer is a tube as well. The genie bottle was tacky, and it wasted a lof of product because of it's shape, and I generally dislike tubes, especially those that look like they belong in a teens vanity. NARS' (also one of my favorite makeup brands) primer bottle is nice and sleek, as with the rest of their products. The product itself works very nicely. Even with the UD primer I would get some creasing by the end of the day (or 8 hours in, depending on what I'm doing that day), while NARS' primer lasts until I wash it off in the evening. They have the same abilities when it comes to eyeshadow quality (bright, crisp). One of the biggest areas that NARS wins this battle of the eyeshadow primers is blending. NARS' primer blends beautifully, it blems much, much nicer than the UD primer, or even the Smashbox primer. The only thing that I didn't really like about the UD primer was the blending issue, so NARS is officially the primer to beat.Overall, this is an excellent primer. It's transparent, it makes blending easily, it doesn't crease, it lasts all day, the packaging is nice, what more can you ask for?The only downside to this (for some people) is that it's more expensive than the others, compared to amount of product. UD Primer Potion has 0.37oz for C$24.00, Too Faced Shadow Insurance has 0.35oz for C$24.00, whereas NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is 0.29oz for C$29.00.In my opinion it's worth it, because a little goes a long way, so it lasts the same amoun time, and the quality overall is better. This is a must have, definitely. « less
