it was great on lengthening and i loved how black it was

you only have to swipe your lashes a couple of times and a lot of product goes on your lashes looking fresh and it looks like you just spent 5 minutes trying to get your lashes long

velvet noir mascara is a full impact mascara which creates the most standout lashes ever with thanks to the super black colour that it paints your lashes, not only that but they give you great volume whilst also lifting and curling the lashes incredibly well

this mascara provided volume and lengthened my lashes considerably, without any clumping, and held a curl very nicely

i always put on a first coat of waterproof mascara to help hold the curl, and then i add another layer using my velvet noir major volume mscara and it does an amazing job of making my lashes look more full and soft

i have really droopy lashes that never seem to stay curled so i tend to opt for the drugstore waterproof but this marc jacobs one is amazing - keeps them curled and separates as you apply

love this mascara my eyelashes are super thin and small this mascara gives me lenght and doesnt clump up my lashes

- Sephora User

loving the velvet noir marc jacobs mascara (my new go to mascara) it adds great volume but doesn't clump up also lengthens short/medium sized lashes making them long and false like (my fave) for the quality the price reasonable and i recommend it to anyone who likes long volumized lashes

Holy Grail

•••This mascara combines the best qualities of my two previously-favorite mascaras! It has absolutely become my holy grail.•••Obviously, not every product is for everyone, but I believe most people will LOVE this. I want my review to be helpful, so I will break this down:***WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT***•The bold, hourglass-shaped wand! The shape is the same as Too Faced's "Better Than Sex", which really helps to pull the lashes upward (lengthening), and its large size aids in effortlessly coating every lash.•The formula! It has a thick and heavy consistency (volumizing) to give crazy-good definition. The formula is not too dry (which prevents flaking) and not too wet (which prevents smudging!) The dramatic aspect of this formula is similar to Benefit's "They're Real!"; HOWEVER, THIS formula can be built layer-upon-layer. (It is also easier to remove than Benefit's.)•The packaging! Not only is the packaging as sleek and attractive as all Marc Jacob products, it is also practical! The fat, hexagonal shape allows for excellent and comfortable control.***THINGS TO CONSIDER***•The fat wand could be somewhat messy for beginners. I don't find it to be an issue at all, but I know some beginners find fat brush wands to be tricky.•The formula has fantastic staying power, and a simple makeup wipe won't remove it. You need to be willing to apply actual makeup remover-- and patience.•TEARS WILL SMEAR THIS MASCARA. Although it wears fabulously and stays put, your bottom lash application will be no match for tears. I usually use this for my top lashes, and I apply a waterproof mascara to my bottom lashes. My eyes water a lot, and this trick has worked perfectly for me.•••BOTTOM LINE•••SO MANY days that I have planned to wear false lashes, I have finished applying this mascara and was like, "Wow! I totally don't need false lashes today!" I'm always blown away by how dramatic, FULL, and long they look! I LOVE that I can layer and layer it. I can easily sculpt them to "fan" out (like a flower) OR sometimes I build them up then sweep them outwards for a "flutter" effect.Even my friend (who is a fellow makeup junkie and collector) notes that this mascara makes my lashes look like I'm wearing falsies.•••If you're on the fence, DO IT! This is certainly a LOVE-it-or-HATE-it . . . but, as you can clearly tell by the reviews, ALMOST EVERYONE is in love! « less

Best mascara I've used all year

I was really excited to try this mascara but was not expecting to love it as much as I do. The formula is not too wet but also doesn't dry out quickly. The color is dark black and really gives your lashes a fabulous tint. Best of all, you can really build up your lashes as much or as little as you want without worrying about clumps. I'm one of those women who wears a ton of coats of mascara to build up my thin and pale lashes. It's surprising that even with just one coat, my lashes get great color and definition. Of course I'm not going to stop there but it is nice that you can get a natural look from this mascara if that is what you want. I like to layer about three coats of this mascara and it gives me great drama and volume without looking clumpy or overdone. The brush is really unique, sort of a twisted brush with dense bristles and a little bit of a "ball" shape to the end. The bristles really grab onto your lashes and coat them in the product, leaving your lashes thick and dark but not clumpy. The "ball" end is really great for using on the bottom lash line because it allows you to apply the product precisely without getting it all over your skin.Another thing I love about this mascara is that it does not smudge on to my lower lash line or flake off but it is very easy to remove with a q-tip if I get some of the mascara on my skin. I just let it dry and it easy flakes off of my lid. But again, it stays on my lashes with zero flaking or smudging. I have very oily skin so this is a huge plus for me.I've had this mascara for about a month so far and it's really not showing any age at all, which is especially impressive when I use it daily and apply at least three coats every time. It's not a wet formula, which sometimes can dry out very quickly, but it's still acting exactly the same as the first day I used it. So even though this mascara is certainly more expensive than a drugstore brand, it's lasting me much longer and holding up much better.I was hoping to like this mascara and enjoy getting to try it out but now I'm hooked and I'm going to have to purchase it again (and again). It really is the best mascara I've tried in the past year (drugstore and high end) and I'll definitely continue to use it. « less

Marc Jacobs does it again!

I am constantly trying out new products, always putting them through the ringer and really testing everything the brand claims it will do. I am disappointed by a lot of products, especially mascara, but this one is awesome!! I already love the Marc Jacobs O!Mega Volumizing mascara, and most of the Marc Jacobs products I own. But to be honest, for some reason, I wasn't expecting to like this one very much; I was completely wrong though and should have known better! Here is why. Brush The brush is full and curved, with the bristles varying in length and direction. A rule of thumb I always go by, is the way a mascara brush looks is roughly how it will make your lashes look. So based on this brush, your lashes should look thick, dramatic, and fluttery. The shape of the brush does a great job of depositing product into your lashes, but not too much. And if you do get too much product, a couple swipes of the wand distributes it out fairly evenly. The curve of the brush also helps to reach the corner lashes. Formula This is only of my favorite parts of the mascara. The formula is slightly drier, not in a flakey way, but rather in a thicker, not-watery way. I find that these formulas help to really pump up drama and volume and also hold a curl or style better. They are also easier to work with because you can generally shape and guide your lashes to how you want them to look. If you like the formulas of Benefit Rollerlash, Benefit They're Real, Lancome Hypnose Drama, or Too Faced Better Than Sex, you'll love this formula and this mascara! Results Drama!!! That's the first word that comes to mind. My lashes after one coat looked thicker and longer. After three coats, letting each coat dry slightly before the next, my lashes looked like false lashes! They were super thick, had so much volume, really dark, but what surprised me is they were so lifted, long and curled! I was definitely not expecting so much length from this mascara! The results lasted a while on me too; I even worked out and my lashes looked the same after. What's more is that I got these results without any lash primer. I always wear the Lancome Cils Booster XL under any mascara and it just pumps up the results even more, and it was no exception with Velvet Noir either; my lashes looked amazing! I would most definitely recommend trying this mascara out if you like super dramatic, voluminous, slightly clumpy (in a good way!) lashes! One tip to keep the clumping to a minimum though is to let each coat dry a little before the next one. When you apply too much wet formula, you will get more serious clumping, that isn't super cute. All in all, love it!!! « less

I love this mascara - it’s my go to. It does an amazing job giving my lashes a more full appearance without clumping. It claims to be smudge-free without being water proof, but I can see the day’s wear on some occasions. Overall super great, and I love the thicker, volumizing brush.

not the best mascara

I got the free sample size with my beauty insider points. I was very excited to use this as I have read all the great reviews on it. The first time I used it I loved it, I had used it to blend my individual false lashes in with my natural lashes. Then this morning I went to use the product just on my normal lashes that had been curled and I didn't like the way it looked. I have very long and thick lashes naturally, and I found it just made them very spidery or something. It didn't add volume, it just made like 6 very this pieces of my lashes which was really just them all clumping together in different places. So overall I would use it again after application of false lashes, but not on its own.

This is my favorite mascara of all time and I’ve tried a lot I would say! I also really like the tarte light camera lashes and the bad gurl bang from benefit. For drugstore the L’Oréal lash paradise! But right now Sephora has a set of mascaras for $48 and it has so many good ones , this one is in there , kush mascara and so many others I know this set costs more but you get 2 full sized and a ton of minis to try then you’ll know your favorite and what is worth buying the full size I’d recommend that well it’s available (:
