Jerome Russell, My Hero!

I have used many of the Jerome Russell Punky Colour colors (Lagoon, Violet, Flamingo Pink, Turquoise, Midnight Blue, Spring Green) on both my son & daughter's hair and they've worked well and colored great. The key to a good, deep color is to bleach your hair to a very pale yellow (I recommend Clairol's Nice & Easy Born Blonde). If you bleach your hair to only the orange stage you may not get your desired result (orange hair + turquoise color = green hair . . . it happens). Bottom line, bleach to pale yellow to get the color you want. The Punky Colour directions say to color clean, dry hair. I've gotten the deepest color when I did NOT use a conditioner prior to coloring. Granted, it may take more time and effort to comb through bleached, tangly, unconditioned hair but the color will be better absorbed and much deeper than on conditioned hair. I have found that leaving Punky Colour on for about an hour gives great results. The formula is gentle & smells great so leaving it on longer than the recommended time has never been a problem.Punky Colour is a temporary color and will fade over time. You can touch up or change your color when you bleach/touch up your roots. I highly recommend using the Loreal EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care shampoo & conditioner to extend the life of your color.Have fun . . . it's just hair !!! « less

Purple Face!

What a nightmare! Yes, this product has good color, but the first time I used it, and I hardly needed to use much to cover, I rinsed it out and it had stained my face. I then washed it 2x and for the next week it left a purple cast on the skin below my hairline and with a very bumpy rash. Now that the color has been in more than a week, it has stopped. I do admit, the quality of the color is very good, but what a pain!

Best Semi Permanent Out There

I've used this dye for the last 5 years. Now, the first thing you have to realize about these dyes is that they are SEMI-permanent. Which means they WILL wash out. There's no way to make a permanent blue or pink dye. So resign yourself to having to touchup depending on the number of times you shampoo per week. My routine: (Color lasts for 3-6 months - I have to redo my roots before the color is gone) 1. Bleach hair - Not optional 2. Slather dye on and leave for at least 2 hours - Use baby wipes (yes, baby wipes) to clean ears/face/neck of dye. 3. After at least 2 hours, rinse in a tub till water runs clear. 4. Scrub hands with rough sponge/shampoo till color is gone. 5. Fill spray bottle with 10% bleach/90% water and spray down any surface stained with dye. Leave for a few minutes and watch the dye disappear! 6. Use baby wipes (again) on any areas that the dye transfers to over the coming months. Believe me, baby wipes do the trick. 7. Only shampoo 1-2 times per week. You can shower/condition your hair every day, but the more you shampoo, the more the dye will wash out and the faster your hair will fade.

Vibrant color - may cause allergic reaction

I've dyed my hair four times with Punky colour - turquoise, midnight blue, and twice with a mixture of violet and plum. The great thing about this specific brand of dye is that you don't have to bleach your hair for the color to show up, provided the dye you've chosen is fairly darker than your hair. I have medium-brown hair, and the only color that didn't really show up in it was turquoise (which was expected, considering how light turquoise is). Another thing to note: my scalp broke out in a mild rash after using the plum/violet mixture. However, it only lasted a couple days and I absolutely loved the color. I didn't take off any stars for this because it wasn't very irritating. The color itself bled for the first few washes and lasted for about 1.5 months. So, overall, this product gave me an allergic reaction and I still used it again; the results were THAT great!
