Makes No Difference

Unfortunately I really don't get it.While this is extremely lightweight and dries in nicely if you let it sit for 3-5 minutes before applying makeup, I didn't find it to be mattifying on my combination skin, it didn't minimize pores (mine are average), and really just didn't do anything I expect from a primer. It seems to make my makeup slip more throughout the day! This primer also seemed to separate easily, and took a lot of shaking or stirring to try to mix it again. I also seemed to go through it EXTREMELY quickly. It was very runny and if I didn't use enough it was really like I was putting water on my skin. With all the amazing reviews of this product, I expected more, especially for this price. It's just not for me and I won't be rebuying..

Great Under Eye Veil

I do not have a problem giving this 5 stars! When I saw the word matte, I almost didnt try the sample. I got the sample in my Sephora Play box. This is not the kind of matte texture I expected. Thank goodness because, my skin is dry and I don't use anything matte on my skinbut, as anxious to try this for the purpose of using a veil. The product applies silky. It does not cast white on your skin either. It just leaves a silky luminous sheen. I use it under my eyes before applying concealer. Let me tell you! I've found my holy grail, thst helps my concealer NOT settle in fine lines! My concealer blends like a dream, smooth, over my skin. As the day wears on, I have not noticed my concealer settling in lines. Also, the veil, seemed to tighten the pores I have around the corners of my mouth. Im 57 years and did pick at my face when I was in my 20s leaving large pores. Nothing seems to help hide them so my foundation looks good. This product did the trick tho. Im not sure if its suppose to be a pore filler, but, it worked better than the "no more pores" I've been using. I also didnt notice any pilling. Zero. Did not leave a greasy feeling to my skin either. Just use sparingly and you'll have great results, making your foundation or skin tint look beautiful. I'll be purchasing a full size when my sample is gone. In my photo, you will notice a white cast. This impression is only in the photo. Not in real life. The 1st photo was taken with a flash. 2nd photo was taken with a ring light.

Amazing stuff

As someone with oily, acne-prone skin, I have always been hesitant to wear primers - just one more product on my face to clog it up and add more oil. I have dabbled in other brands' primers off and on for years - Smashbox, MUFE, Benefit, etc. They all feel and do about the same - if you have perfect skin, they're great! I don't - I'd end up oily and clogged and blotting hourly, so I just figured they weren't for me.After searching for oily skin help and seeing so many glowing reviews for this, I reluctantly took the plunge. I am SO glad I did.It goes on like silk. It's amazing, because while it definitely isn't runny, it goes on like water. You barely feel anything, and it soaks in immediately - no waiting to apply makeup. I love that this has SPF too, and put it on my eyelids for added benefit, even if I don't wear eye m/u that day. It really just smooths everything out and makes your skin feel incredibly soft. It helps cover my large pores but still looks natural and doesn't feel like you have ANOTHER layer on. Lots of days I just wear the Veil and spot cover blemishes and feel so much more confident than I did before with no makeup. The main reasons I'll keep buying this:- Looks and feels so natural - it's the way your skin SHOULD look, and not chalky or tight. I have problem skin, so I'm not expecting to look airbrushed, but it makes everything less noticeable.- Really keeps my oil at bay and keeps me from blotting my m/u all day.- Yes, it's expensive, but you need SO little of it, a bottle lasts forever. I use 2 tiny pumps (about pencil eraser size) for my whole face. Any excess I wipe on the backs of my hands for added spf! « less

The Dawn of Clear Skin

Up until this year I never used a primer on a regular basis. Instead, I would complete my skin regime with moisturizer and only use what I had of a 100 point-perk Sephora anti-shine primer sample ontop but only on special occasions. I have combo-skin with quite an oily T-zone and my foundation no matter - pressed powder, liquid, cream, you name it, I would be shiny by mid-day; even with the Sephora primer. Looking to see if I could somehow mattify or control the oils of my T-zone, I started researching the best primers and finishing powders. I knew I wanted to control the oil and refrain from constant mid-day blotting sessions, but I wasn't sure if the primer or powder was the best way to go. Since I tended to use a pressed mineral powder foundation at the time, I opted for the primer route. Let me start by saying I am a bit of a nut when it comes to researching out new makeup products...I only want the best of the best! So, naturally I had read and heard just about every review for all the top primers, and it truly seemed like this would be the best. So, I took the opportunity late last year to get a sample while at Sephora and after trying it out initially I can say I was quite dissapointed - I felt like it didn't do much and I was still getting a wee bit oilyer then I was hoping. BUT THEN I went to Sephora in January with my mom and being the makeup afficonado that I am, started talking with one of the ladies at the store. As it turns out she was not a Sephora employee but an Hourlgass representative who travels all over the Pacific-coast of B.C. and down to the States. Since my mom and I had just returned from vacation, we were looking for a new concealer to match our newly tanned complexions but, in the end we ended up walking out with everything but! :P The rep. offered to do my make-up and she used the veil primer followed with the veil fluid foundation and my! how dewy my skin looked! NOT SHINY, BUT GLOWING! A lady even comented on the etheral glow of my skin just moments after my full makeover. Now, even on days when I don't use the veil foundation with it, it is just perfect! I think the problem was before I was not putting enough on my face as there wasn't enough product in the sample. The rep. recommended I use one pump for my whole face, focusing the product on my T-zone (especially between my brows, upper cheeks and chin). I then give it at least a minute as recommended by the rep. to let it set in (and until my skin feels dry to the touch). I have gone to parties, dances, you name it! I look at myself when I get home or at pics post-dacing and sweating it up and my makeup looks like I just put it on as in NO SHINE, NO PORES and my makeup stays in place beautifully. The only thing I found lacking was that for me it didn't really do anything it terms of evening out my skintone/hiding redness as advertised, but that is probably the lesser of my concerns and would this claim would otherwise probably be noticeable on individuals prone to redness/hyper pigmentation, as I am not. I highly recommend you TRY this product. Even since daily use I found this primer has helped to clear up my skin of that even possible? I suppose it really does help barrier the skin, but even on days where I have experimented mixing the primer into my foundation, still, my skin never breaks out as a result. Maybe the anti-aging ingredients are to praise? All I know is that my skin is clear and even on bad shark-week days it is better. So much so even my momma who has normal-combo mature skin and who purchased the No-28 serum primer wants to give my veil a go now after how she saw how well it covered all my pores (and I don't even have that large of pores). It really is just exquisite and should last you a few months - I'd say maybe 3 or 4 with daily use. It is expensive but I truly believe that base products such as primer are worth it to keeping your skin looking beautiful and luminous and put a smile on your face. 'Cause is there really any better accesory? :D Less

Excellent Product

This is the best primer I have ever used, and I have used Sephora, Smashbox, and MUF. The texture is soft, light-weight, and provides a satiny smooth canvas. Does not cause breakouts for my dry, flaky, sensitive, combination skin. I have learned to use this sparingly because otherwise, my face resembles a Japanese Kabuki opera mask--even with a layer of foundation. Even though this product has SPF 15, since you use so little, I doubt that the coverage provides adequate sun protection. But, try pairing it up with Hourglass's Tinted Moisturizer, which has SPF 15 and provides lightweight, luminous, foundation-like coverage. I apply this primer with my fingers, and then use the beautyblender to apply Hourglass' tinted moisturizer.I find that no matter which primer I use, my skin will inevitably become oily and shiny. I use a daytime salicylic acid lotion by Proactiv, Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, Hourglass tinted moisturizer or MUF's HD Invisible Cover foundation, powder blush, and MUF's HD Microfinishing Powder. My skin becomes oily after a few hours, and I blot with a tissue. Have not yet found an effective solution to combat oil and make-up slippage and cakiness.I highly recommend that one at least tries a sample size or the $17/0.33 oz. travel size. Also consider Sephora's $16/0.5 oz. Perfecting Ultra-Smoothing Primer in both Clear and Luminous. Like this product, the Sephora primer gives you a satiny canvas that you can immediately feel on your fingertips. Consider MUF's HD Microperfecting primer if you are interested in color correction, as MUF has an assortment of primers with different color bases to combat uneven skin tone. I battle red patches along my T-zone, and even after trying MUF's primer, I still prefer Hourglass' primer. The MUF primer didn't feel as satiny smooth as the Hourglass primer, and I didn't notice much color correction benefit. Less
