Excellent Powder!

To provide some initial background. I have near 60 year old sensitive, combination skin with some dry patches but a nose that has quick shine break through. My tone is fair with neutral to pink undertones. I'm a NW 15-20 for color range. So I'm always on the search for a foundation or foundation combination that provides medium coverage and doesn't make my mature skin look older or accentuate my dry patches. Also would like it to keep my shiny nose at bay. I've tried so many that I've lost count. I chose the 1N2 which is a great match for my fair skin and goes great with ELDW Light in Intensity 1. This powder along with Double Wear Light gives the best combination so far. I moisturize and use a primer first. Then I apply the ELDW Light with a beauty blender sponge. Next I take up just a bit of the powder on the sponge and blot my nose. Then I take a flat top foundation brush, swirl in the powder very lightly and do a light dusting across my face. This provides a really nice finish. Covers nicely but doesn't look heavy or cakey and even though the powder is truly matte, it doesn't accentuate the dry patches and doesn't settle in pores. I don't think it does anything to help alleviate the dry patches but doesn't make them any flakier. In other reviews there have been some complaints with this powder oxidizing and turning darker or orangey after being on the skin a while - I have not experienced this at all. Also, what I like is no perfumey smell as with some others that I have tried. The feel of this powder is wonderful. It is very finely milled and feels just so silky on my face. If I have one complaint it's with the packaging. I hate the thickness of this. I will not use the sponge. I would like just a thin compact as I would touch up with a brush or beauty blender. Wouldn't mind it if I could remove the pan and put it in a flatter compact. So at this point I think I've found a winner with this in combination with the ELDW Light. I highly recommend this powder. « less

Love this powder!

I have been using this for about a month now and it deserves this 5 star rating! When I turned 40 I started noticing changes in my skin (as I am sure most women do...) and for the past FIVE years I have been trying hundreds and hundreds of products to see what will work best for me. I wore the same high end lines for 15 years and suddenly they weren't enough for me and I wasn't achieving the look I wanted so I began my quest... I don't write reviews based on just a few uses since I feel that adds no value...I need to try a product for at least a few weeks to decide if it's for me...so, here is my review after 4 weeks: When I started trying EL products a few months ago, I asked the EL rep if I'd be the same color in all foundations and she said yes, so I bought this powder in "Pebble" online and sure enough, it's the perfect match for me! Kudos to EL for giving me confidence in online ordering and not making me guess what shade will work based what I see online! That in itself is a priceless benefit!! I have worn this powder in several ways...over moisturizer, over matte primer, pore minimizing primer and over brightening primer and it works well over many primer brands, so I didn't need to change my primers which is nice. I have tried it over my DL foundation and my DL Light foundation and over different brands and formulas of foundations and it is just wonderful! I have ZERO complaints with this powder. It is buildable from sheer to full - alone or over any foundation or primer and it is weightless! I have used it as a finishing powder and as a foundation powder and it's so versatile that it amazes me! In the beginning I would check it every hour to see if I needed a touch up or needed to reapply and after 8 hours it is always still in place (unless I am sweating and wiping my face). It does not cake or settle into lines and does not dry or make me oily. The finish is not super matte but does control oil and hasn't caused a single breakout on my sensitive skin. It gives a natural finish and I feel comfortable and confident in it for a full 8 hours despite the fact that I can't feel it! That's impressive in my book and this is a definite keeper! There's a decent amount of product in the compact, so it lasts, but I've purchased extra so I'm never without it! I have used it with a powder brush and with a sponge to dab those spots where I need a little extra and both work perfectly. My only regret is that I didn't try this sooner and I hope this powder is never discontinued!! Thanks to EL for another quality product with a great shade range and at a reasonable price! « less

Positively The Absolute Best!!

5 stars all the way!! This product is so excellent!! Beautiful coverage and stays all day. Does not settle in fine lines and never looks powdery or cakey. I apply mine with a duo fiber brush... Sephora 44 brush is awesome and I get good coverage with an airbrushed finish. I use the shade Dawn. I am a warm peachy yellow olive undertone with a smidge of a cool tone mixed in. If I get darker I mix in Ivory Beige and if I get a bit darker than that I buff in Tawny. I love mixing all three shades in a sculpt and highlight fashion. It brings so much dimension to your face. I use Sephora Los Cabos for a cheek contour and Serene for a cheek highlighter and too Faced Milk Chocolate for bronzer. and Estee Lauder 2 bronzer for a blush. All these product marry together so beautifully. This foundation is never drying. I have really dry skin and no acne whatsoever, and ths product does not dry my skin out and has never broke me out. I'm 54 with aging skin and and I promise this product makes me look years younger and flawless. I moisturizer heavy at night and I do not wear moisturizer or primer under this powder foundation. It has a velvet airbrushed finish and I use a light hand and still get fabulous coverage that still looks skin like, not makeupyishy. If you want this too look awesome make sure your skin is dry to the touch before applying. Trust me ... you'll love the result. Else wise it will make the product settle in to lines and pores. Which is the reason I got away from liquid foundations. « less

Summarize this product in one sentence.

I first tried this foundation about 10 years ago when I went for a makeover at Estee Lauder before prom. At that point in time I found the foundation to be too heavy on my skin. It wasn't until about 5 years ago I gave Double Wear another try. My thoughts the second time around were as follows.- While the foundation is heavy, it is only classified as medium coverage. I would say it's much closer to full coverage than medium. I have a few freckles and some hyperpigmentation from previous acne scars and it covered everything completely. By the end of the application I had what you might call a blank slate.- The counter girl at Estee Lauder recommended their traditional flat foundation brush for application. I would say this method is streaky and difficult to use. I would instead use either a flat top synthetic kabuki brush or a blending sponge such as the Beauty Blender. Using the kabuki gives an airbrushed finish. Using the blending sponge gives a sheered out (not enough to detract from coverage) finish.- The formula dries semi-matte. I still found it necessary to use a setting powder but if you have dry skin you could probably skip the setting powder.Overall I give this foundation a 9 out of 10. It's versatile if you switch application methods and it truly does give a perfected skin affect. The only negatives I have are the price (I don't mind to pay more for foundation...some might find it steep) and I wish the bottle had a pump for easy, clean dispensing. « less

Disappointing

After reading great things about this foundation, I was really disappointed to find it was nowhere near as good as my usual foundation (Double Wear Camouflage)The formula is very runny and thin, which makes application difficult. You have to work very quickly to build up to a decent coverage, otherwise the product becomes patchy as you try adding on top of the foundation that's already setting. It clings to any dry areas too, which just highlights the problem. Once I got the hang of it, I set it with my usual powder and it stayed in place for 5 hours. It definitely does not last 15 hours as advertised. The second time I wore this was to a wedding and after 8 hours my make-up was extremely patchy and looked awful. The Double Wear Camouflage Foundation still looks flawfless after a whole day rushing around at work, so I'm definitely going to be sticking with that.I'm disappointed though because I was after a more natural-looking, lightweight foundation. This watery consistency is just too lightweight for me though. Perhaps it's best on someone with problem-free skin who just wants a little enhancement. « less

I’m looking for a really good full coverage foundation that isn’t cakey and that is non-comedogenic. Any favorites?? #foundation #fullcoverage #recommendation

Or you could also use the liquid form of the same foundation. It’s amazing because it’s very buildable and smoothe on the skin. The only thing I will tell you to be aware about is the color range because sometimes the shades could oxidize on the skin.

This is the best powder ever! I use it on all oily clients for weddings. It lasts all day and has a surprisingly natural finish.
