staying power

longlasting

we all love how smooth it goes on and how well it stays on

- Walgreens User

it looks really good, applies very easy, you don't need a lip liner with it, the color is long-lasting, and what is very important, this lipstick does not dry your lips, as most of the matte lipsticks do

- Walgreens User

precision

precise application

these are so awesome, portable, precise, and perfect

- Walgreens User

it helps make application much more precise, which is always a bonus in my book

- Elfcosmetics User

chapped lips

hydrates lips

these lipsticks are in beautiful colors, they are super easy to apply and have stayed awesomely well for me, and they are soft and hydrating

- Walgreens User

this is a very nice matte red lipstick, that is moisturizing and not drying

- Walgreens User

consistency

creamy

i like texture,it's really smooth and silky

- Walgreens User

i love the creamy consistency

- Elfcosmetics User

texture

smooth

palettes, eyeshadows, cream blushes, foundation, mascara, face wipes, eye pencils, liquid liners, and even some handy dandy eyelashes (which i rock, when i can), and etc

- Walgreens User

they have rich pigmentation, smooth texture and a pleasantly sweet taste, too

- Walgreens User

weight

lightweight

i often forget i'm even wearing it because it's super lightweight, not sticky, and keeps my lips hydrated for a long time without feathering even without using a lip pencil (which go without every time)

- Walgreens User

i love the lightweight matte finish and long wear

- Elfcosmetics User

pigmentation

sheer

the color is perfect, it glides on and it isn't as creamy like the ud sheer or mac cream sheen, so it doesn't get all over my coffee cup

- Ulta User

it looks great when layered for a more glamour pout, but i fell in love with this lipstick because it can be worn almost as a lipbalm when applied sheerly and smudged with fingers

Love these!

Currently, I have this product in Praline and Rich Red, and I absolutely love both. The retractable pencil/crayon design is fantastic for precision application. I was especially intrigued by these being matte colors; I'm not a big fan of shiny lip products, so the matte part got my attention immediately. Prior to buying, I assumed "matte" would mean "dry," but these go on very smoothly. They may not be shiny, but are more of a silky, creamy texture that makes your lips feel soft without feeling sticky. Even when the lipstick start to dry up, your lips won't feel tacky and the color still stays pretty visible. Also, these taste and smell really good. They aren't flavored, but I just like how they taste. I don't get it either. Praline's color swatch looks like a peachy-coral color, but the photo and the color swatch on the product itself is more accurate. Praline is more of a dark rose color and great if you want lipstick that's a bit more on the subtle side, which I did want when I ordered it and it looks exactly like the band of color on the end when applied. Rich Red is a little misleading. When asking for recommendations for a primary red lipstick, someone suggested the matte lipstick in Rich Red. I was skeptical because the color swatch is dark red, but I ordered anyway. If it was actually dark red, I'd still wear it. Much to my surprise, Rich Red is, in fact, bright, classic fire-engine red. Personally, this was fine by me because I was looking for that shade of red, but it might bother some folks who are looking for a darker red. Overall, these are fantastic and I have absolutely no complaints. I wear mine just about every single day.

Converted me into a lipstick girl!

These products are phenomenal. I have never been much of a lipstick person, but occasionally I'll wear a red lip for a special occasion. During my initial courtship with Elf products a few months ago, I decided I'd buy a few of them and give them a shot. And I'm so happy I did! I've been collecting them ever since.First of all, let's talk product quality/application, and then we'll get to the specific colors. The size of these lipsticks are awesome, especially for someone with small lips like myself. It helps make application much more precise, which is always a bonus in my book. They are also a very light finish. One of the reasons I've never liked lipstick is because it leaves my mouth feeling heavy and tacky, but not these ones. I hardly notice I'm wearing anything. The color is long-lasting, and even though some of it may rub off on, say, a coffee mug, it's does not seem to affect the appearance on your actual lips. What's coming off is the excess color, but the majority of it is staying put. Now that being said, I do use a lip exfoliator and chapstick a little while before I do my lipstick (I have not tried the Elf lip primer, but it's one of the next things on my list to buy!) and I also use the Elf Makeup Mist & Set spray on my final look. This routine has helped me with avoiding creasing in the fine lines of my lips and in prolonging the life of the color. I drink a lot of fluids throughout the day, so I do have to touch up occasionally, but not nearly as often as I would have to with an average lipstick. Now, the colors. I own Nearly Nude, Natural, Tea Rose, Coral, Hot Commodity, Rich Red, and Wine. I find myself consistently reaching for Coral, but they're all beautiful colors. I have noticed that Nearly Nude and Natural don't seem to be all that different from one another, but all skin types are unique, so that may not be the case for someone else. Tea Rose is a beautiful light pink/purply color, but just not my favorite for my skin tone. Coral is a gorgeous, subtle pink. Perfect for putting a little bit of color in your lips. Hot Commodity is SUPER hot pink, like Barbie-style. It's a stunning color, but perhaps too girly for me! I rarely use it alone, but instead tend to add a dash of it to Natural or Nearly Nude to soften the boldness a bit. Rich Red and Wine are both amazing shades of red, and are easily my go-to red lip. They are beautiful and long-lasting, and, at least for me, require less frequent touch-ups than their lighter-colored counterparts. If I could get away with wearing a bold lip every single day, I would use these all the time. But I still see red lips as a special occasion shade, so I don't wear them as often as I'd like to! That being said, I prefer Wine just a smidge more than Rich Red, because it is a tad darker and more dramatic. The best part about all of these colors is that you can experiment. I've mixed a few colors just to create some different shades, and the results are always pleasantly surprising. I can't wait to get Cranberry (come back in stock soon!) and Praline. This was an extremely long review, but I know how difficult it can be to shop online, so I wanted to be as specific as possible. I hope I've helped someone who was on the fence about purchasing!Pictured: Rich Red, Coral, and swatches of the ones I own (left to right: Nearly Nude, Natural, Tea Rose, Coral, Hot Commodity, Rich Red, Wine) « less

A semi lightweight lip crayon

I have this lip color crayon in Rich Red. While this says "matte" lip color, it isn't very matte. It feels more like a moisturizing lip color that isn't pearlescent. (Those "metallic" lip colors with tiny flecks of glitter. They aren't actually metallic). If I compared this to the ELF moisturizing lipstick, this is a slightly less creamy version. Bottom line, this isn't matte in the true sense of lipsticks or lip crayons that are actually matte. The Rimmel brand's Kate Moss line in the red tubes are more along the lines of a matte lipstick that I typically look for. As far as the product goes, it's great if you're wanting a lip color that's easy to draw on like you would with lip liner, then fill in like lipstick. This is why I refer to it as a lip crayon. This is a lighter weight than ELF's moisturizing lipstick, as well as more transparent than the fully opaque (full coverage) lipstick. I would suggest this lighter-weight lip color for semi casual events, especially if you're a big fan of red lip color. Color: This is true to color in the photos, but the red color on the bottom of the crayon's container is 2 shades darker than the actual crayon. The container has an almost burgundy color, while this is more akin to a barely ripe cherry. The only problem I had with my specific item was that it broke 2/3 of the way down the crayon. I think this may have happened in shipping, which isn't ELF's problem at all. It happens. If you have this happen, don't blame the company, just blame S&H. ELF often uses Fedex and you hear nothing but trouble with them. I honestly would pay more for UPS, since they've been great no matter what state I have lived in. Photos: In my attached photos, I have a "with" and "without" Lipcote. The one with the swatch on my hand is WITH Lipcote. I'm a fan of using lipstick sealant/top coat. The reason why I go for a dryer matte lipstick is because I love using Lipcote with it. I can't remember if Lipcote advertises using this item with it, but it doesn't work well for me. I have many tricks, but they didn't work when I tried it. Lipcote cracks and peels after I let it settle for 6-10 minutes. It's still too creamy for Lipcote to stay bound together. I've tried trans. powder/lipcote/powder/lipcote. I've tried a base and top coat of Lipcote. No luck. Now, a this has a lot to do with pH balance, so I encourage Lipcote users to try it, and perhaps give some tips if you have something that works better. Overall: the product is great! It has a smooth finish that isn't super glossy. It's easy to apply and it's light weight. I just can't use it with Lipcote :(

The best I have used

I own several of these and have gotten my friends addicted too. These are very matte which I love but the do not look or feel dry or cakey. Highly pigmented and for me, they last all day.

Color much lighter

I really liked the idea of having a matte lip color in my ELF collection. The color I purchased was Rich Red. It seems pretty good in the packaging. However, I was disappointed on the color application. Firstly, the color on screen is way darker than the actual color available. The color I bought thinking it was going to be a nice red was in reality a dark pink. I am highly disappointed because I was really looking forward to using this matte lip color. Secondly, the color cannot be used on its own. I need to apply a lip balm prior to its application, otherwise it will dry the lips. Also, I wish there were more colors availble. However,I must say that the staying power of this matte lip color is very, very good. And I like the packaging as well. Overall, it is ok.
