Amazing setting spray!

I absolutely love this setting spray! I have combination/oily skin and I work a full day without getting to touch up so I always love a good setting spray. My go to used to be the UD All Nighter which kept my makeup on my face, but it would make me have a very dewy/borderline oily look at the end of the day. This Cover FX setting spray not only keeps my makeup on my face after a full day, it leaves a soft matte appearance and no oily look! I am in love! The only thing I don't like is the mist- it is not "ultra fine" as they say, the droplets definitely feel larger than the UD spray. However, it does not seem to affect the efficacy of the product, so I am still rating this as Excellent.

Before this I thought setting sprays were placebos

This stuff is the real deal. I have oily-combo skin (much more oily at this time of year) and after seeing numerous positive reviews on this product I thought I'd give setting sprays one final try. In the past I've tried the Urban Decay All Nighter, Wet n Wild Photofocus, Essence Make it Last, and Ben Nye Final Seal setting sprays. While Ben Nye certainly held everything in place it did nothing for oil control (it never said it would but a girl can hope) and the other 3 didn't make a darn bit of difference on my oily skin. At this point I figured any results from setting sprays were just placebo effects. So when testing out this product I tried it a number of different ways to make sure I was actually seeing the results of the setting spray and not just the combo of other products I was using. I've tried this product over 2 different primers: the Dior Pore Minimising Mattifying primer and the Deciem Hylamide Matte 12 primer, as well as over 3 different foundations: the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation set with the Laura Mercier translucent powder on a damp RT sponge, the KVD powder foundation, and the NYX Stay Matte powder foundation, and I found it made a difference in the oil control and the lasting power of my makeup with all of them, compared to not using it. As a final test I tried one day using just primer with powder foundation and no setting spray, as well as one day using my primer with no foundation or powder, just topped with the setting spray. This confirmed to me that the setting spray was actually doing something. Hallelujah! On the day without setting spray but with powder foundation, I noticed I was getting hella shiny after about 3-4 hours (the norm for me), but on the day where I skipped any sort of powder or foundation but used the setting spray just over primer, it was about 6 hours before I started to even look slightly shiny, perhaps even ‘glowy’, and even then there wasn't much oil residue on my face (normally I'd use up an entire blotting sheet or two by this point). Needless to say, I was impressed. My only con about this product is the nozzle, as other reviewers have mentioned. It doesn’t give a very even mist and I found I was getting more product on my arms than my face. So I recommend decanting it into another spray bottle if you have one, or what I like to do instead is I spray the flat side of my RT sponge (or you could use a BB) and then dab it on my face where I need the oil control. I also find this prevents the spray from smudging my mascara or drying out my lips. « less

Performs as expected

I have very oily skin. It's actually quite annoying but I like to tell myself it'll help keep the wrinkles away! With that said, I've always been a die hard UD de-slick fan or up all nighter setting spray. I decided to try this one for something new and I think it works just as good, if not better. It does have an alcohol smell, which isn't the greatest but it does a good job keeping my makeup in place and not slipping around from my oil. Which, let's be honest, if you have ridiculously oily skin like myself, that's all you can really ask for. No matter what we have to blot at some point. I find I have to do it less with this setting spray and my makeup stays put.

natural matte finish, no transfer when touched

I love this spray! I have dry, sensitive skin and I typically go for sprays that try to have that dewy finish, but many of those sprays (tatcha specifically) separate my makeup and make it gross. I tried to go back to the Urban Decay all nighter, but because I'm so sensitive the alcohol ingredient dried out my skin and also separated my makeup. So I was on the hunt for a new product and I saw the amazing reviews for this... And it's alcohol free!!! If you are dry and sensitive, please don't hesitate to try this out. I love how this spray doesn't make you look Matte but it feels matte. I kept touching my face all night and was surprised even after sweating at the club that my makeup wasn't coming off! I love this stuff. If you wanted to love the Urban Decay all nighter and wish you loved it, try this! This is how the Urban Decay one should be. « less

I really did not like this. It was not super mattifying, and made my skin very dry. What’s worse, though, is that after a few hours my makeup would start to pill together and peel off my face, almost as if the spray fused my makeup together and made it into a peel rather than seamless on my face. At first I thought maybe it was the new primer I was using, but once I stopped using this spray the problem stopped and I’ve never had that happen since.

Matte setting sprays without alcohol? I’d prefer not to dry out my skin but still look matte.
