using the clarifying lotion (in the winter i use type 1) afterwards removes any feelings of oily-ness left by the cleanser and makes my skin feel silky smooth, even before i use the dramatically different lotion

- Ulta User

i love the way this takes my makeup off and it leaves my skin soft and smooth

- Ulta User

but this cleanser is gentle enough for my skin, yet always leaves it feeling refreshed

- Clinique User

not only does this gentle, but thorough cleanser (removes most of my makeup) do a fine job of cleaning the skin and leaving my skin feeling soft and smooth, it also has a mild scent and almost no taste

- Sephora User

this is the first facial soap i have ever used that has not dried out my face, people say it smells like plastic, and it's fragrance free, but it kinda smells like a mint mojito, it smells good

- Ulta User

makes my face feel clean and doesn't over dry or leave a residue

- Ulta User

good for acne

i have no breakouts

- Ulta User

i use it day and night and it cleans my face so well and does not irritate my sensitive skin and prevents breakouts

- Ulta User

redness relief

doesn't leave my face feeling dry or red

- Ulta User

i have bought many cleansers throughout my life and with my rosacea nothing really helped me, all i bought would just irritate me and make my face very red until i found clinic

- Ulta User

pore minimizing

i use it in conjunction with the sonic cleansing tool and i have definitely noticed an improvement in my skin - skin tone is more even, pores appear smaller and even my breakouts have improved

- Clinique User

while i was using it, i could feel a soothing cool feeling on my face and could tell it was really getting into my pores and cleaning thoroughly

- Clinique User

good quality

while it is a little more $$ than drugstore brands, the quality is unmatched and i like to use it in the shower and it does go a long way

Favorite every-day cleanser

I am a long-time fan of this cleanser and Clinique. When I was a teenager I used the bar version of the soap, which was awkward and difficult to use. This liquid soap and its easy pump dispenser was a revelation! It dispenses just the right amount- a half pump is really all it takes to lather up into a thick enough foam to cleanse my whole face. I use this in the morning and in the evening- twice every day. The bottle lasts a long time- several months of regular use. There are a couple other cleansers I use occasionally, but this is the one I always return to. I never have a problem with breakouts and actually when other products cause issues on my skin, this cleanser and the Dramatically Different Gel take care of them after a couple days. I've used the Oily and the Gentle formulations and I prefer the gentle forumla. Though I do have oily skin, as I've gotten older the for-oily cleanser dries me out a little *too* much so I prefer the gentle formulation now. (I don't use the Step 2 Clarifying anymore because I found the alcohol too drying and stinging but I plan to try the Gentle formula of that too.) After I use this cleanser, I use any serums I may be using, let those dry, and then use the Step 3 Dramatically Different Gel. Works like a charm! Clears up any problem areas, and keeps new blemishes from forming, banishes blackheads (which I used to have a big problem with!) and generally leaves my skin feeling smooth, soft, clean and refreshed. « less

Sometimes simple is best

In a world of expensive and exhausting beauty routines, Clinique stands out from the crowd by offering simple and affordable skin care. But, best of all, their products really work. I was a die-hard facial soap mild and extra mild bar soap user, but have switched over to the liquid form. I have very dry skin, but I use the mild vs. extra mild liquid soap as I found the later to be like washing my face in moisturizing cream. It neither removed my make-up nor did it cleanse my skin effectively. But, the mild version does both beautifully. It's a cinch to use as you simply wet your face, press down on the dispenser (one pump generally gives you the perfect amount), rub lightly into your skin, and rinse well. You will be left with clean skin ready for exfoliating (I use an amino acid gel) and moisturizing (Clinique Moisture Surge Intense is my pick here). Even if you have oily or combination skin, I would suggest moisturizing as this can leave your skin feeling a little tight. The bottle lasts a long time and is well-designed to allow you to dispense almost every last drop. As with all Clinique products, this is fragrance-free. So, while you won't experience a waft of euphoric bliss, neither will you risk having a reaction due to added perfumes. While this may not be the most beautiful or exciting product on your bathroom vanity, it does its job and delivers clean skin. And, proper cleansing is really the foundation upon what good skin care is built. Simple. « less

Wouldn't use any other cleanser

I have dehydrated hormonal skin. This winter I struggled to find a moisturizer that could keep up with the dryness. I was layering two to three products on every day, still having to reapply throughout the day because my skin felt tight and uncomfortable.I went to Beautypedia to find a perfect moisturizer because I was going crazy trying to find one that worked. After reading I realized it may not be my moisturizer. It may be my entire routine that was the problem. Typically a budget shopper, I realized I was perhaps depriving my skin of the nutrients it needed. I decided to cut back to basics, beginning with a new cleanser.I bought this cleanser (for dry to very dry skin). It was a leap for me as far as price. But I am so glad I did!I followed the instructions and removed most of my makeup first with my makeup remover. Then I massaged this cleanser it into my skin gently, allowing it to sit for a while to break apart all the sunscreen and extra makeup still on my face. I wiped it clean with a warm wet washcloth, careful to rinse thoroughly. My skin felt so smooth, soft and clean!But....It felt uncomfortably dry (as other posters have commented). I was disappointed. I woke up in the morning and my face felt tight and uncomfortable. However, I spent so much money on it and I know that nothing happens over night. Sometimes you have to be patient with skin care. As I didn't notice any new breakouts, rashes, or red spots (in fact my pores appeared smaller and fine lines on my forehead had disappeared) . I decided to keep trying it for a week.By day two my skin felt less dry after use.By day three I needed less moisturizer.By day five my skin felt hydrated and comfortable ALL DAY.Changing to this cleanser has eliminated three steps (and products) from my routine. I'm not sure I can trust my skin to any other product. It's worth the money for me. « less

Horrible for Sensitive Skin

I have tried Clinique's eye and lip treatments and was happy with the results, so decided to take a swing at their cleansing line. let me first say that my face is combination to oily and quite sensitive. I was recommended a line of products "tailored" to my skin (thought I think she ignored my plight for a sensitive wash and went straight for the problem areas). The wash was gentle but a bit overdrying and smelled horribly of chemicals. Even unscented, hypoallergenic washes should be void of a chemical smell. The "cleansing lotion" that she assigned was extremely drying and irritating, leaving me with a burning sensation whenever i used it. The oil free lotion I was given with it made my skin itch and it clogged my pores. I was so disappointed with the outcome of these products considering I bought all three...I honestly would have compared it's effectiveness and benefits to that of a drugstore off-brand. Sorry, Clinique- you're working with too many chemicals. « less

I first started using this product when I was 15 because I started to break out and my mom always told me Clinique made the best skin care products (totally true by the way). I grew up in Vegas so at that time my skin was super dry, so I started using this along with the toner and the dramatically different lotion and it cleared my skin so beautifully! I eventually stopped using it because my skin had cleared up and then when I was 18 i moved to NYC and had the WORST break out of my life! My face was completely covered in big sore red pimples and ppl would always stare at me and comment about it. I tried everything to clear my skin up (including every face wash except for this one because I seemed to have forgot about it) and it only got worse so I saw a dermatologist and he tried to put me on accutane but I told him no. He told me that my acne was caused from me washing my face too much and that my skin was too sensitive for soaps so I stopped washing my face and what do you know, it cleared up. I suffer from dark spots and minor scarring now but I just switched back to using this face wash along with the moisturizer because I just feel like my face is so dirty from living in the city and it's cleared my skin up even more!! I highly recommend this face wash along with the dramatically different moisturizer. They work well with all skin types in my opinion, going from having dry skin in Las Vegas to now oily/combination skin on the east coast. « less
