After months of use, it started burning

I have oily skin, so it might have been dumb for me to have gotten this in the first place. However, it was recommended to me by a dermatologist in February, so I got it. I was on a prescription acne treatment, and my skin was horribly dry and was flaky and scaly and disgusting, and this stuff REALLY moisturized my skin. After all the flakes were gone and my skin was back to normal (except without acne--yay!), I kept using the stuff because the container was huge. I was okay with it, even though my face was an oil slick by noon. It always has been; probably always will be. However, when the hotter months came around, it was awful. I live in a pretty hot climate, and it got into the high 80s at the start of May. My skin was completely oily all the time. This is also where the burning started. Now, where I apply it, my face turns red and it starts to burn. The redness stays for a few seconds, then fades, but the burning takes a little longer to go away, and my face feels tender for half an hour. I know this line is known for being gentle and non-irritating, but it's just not working for me. However, it might work for someone with very dry skin. Or, at least, not very oily. Tonight, I diluted it with water, which seemed to help a little, but it still stings. I'm going to keep the tub, and start using something else, then maybe try it again when winter rolls around. I forgot to say this, but it has a very thick consistency, and no fragrance. It's very very very moisturizing, so it might work for someone with dry skin. Maybe not sensitive skin, though... I gave it a star because, even though I didn't like it, it IS very moisturizing, and could work for someone with dry skin. « less user

Overnight Results - Getting my face back already!

I'm not sure what happened to my face for the past 2 weeks. I've never had major acne problems or bad skin...pimple every now and then. I remember putting Alpha Hydrox Spot Light Targeted Skin Lightener (pretty much a dark spot remover# on my cheek area and outer part of my nose. Went out in the sun for about 30mins #that’s the most sun exposure I've had because I do not like heat at all# a couple of days thing I knew, I woke up and had like these burnt marks on my cheeks and nose. At first I thought my face was just dry so I did my routine with my Mary Kay 3-in-1 Cleanser but then when I put on my makeup #after using my Neutrogena oil free moisturizer#, mainly my foundation #cream, liquid, and/or powder# I noticed that the make-up was just sitting there and it formed like a rim around the dark spots - it was SO obvious! I noticed that I could peel some of it away when I scratched it lightly or used a tweezer, so I told myself - lay off the makeup and just put something to soften it so it can peel away faster. I used Vaseline, Shea butter, and even Neosporin at night but the flakes were still there after washing my face with the cleanser. Some of it went away but I noticed it was still there when I put on makeup and it was kind of hard like a scar. So I tried using a scrub at night, which it did help very little, but I would have to scrub my face kind of hard with Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub in order to remove the flakes, then my cheeks were kind of red and sore. I knew that things were not getting better because it would burn after using the Aveeno scrub and when putting on the Shea butter or Neosporin. So finally looked online and did some research on Tuesday, June 4th on how to get rid of "dead/flaky skin" #mind you, the past 2 weeks, I barely wore makeup#. Found this one article online and they said the key was: 1. CLEANSE #with a scrub or exfoliate# 2. FACIAL STEAM #pour hot water in a bowl and cover your head with a bath towel and allow the steam to penetrate - be careful not to burn yourself! If you feel the steam is too much remove the towel for a short period of time and go back# 3. HYDRATE #with a moisturizer with that contains ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid to draw in moisture, strengthening and plumping skin, plus SPF 30 to protect it from the sun# When researching the moisturizer, quite a bit of websites said CeraVe was one of the best and highly recommended by dermatologist. After reading the reviews, I said to myself - "Why not"!. I went to Wal-Mart and purchased the CeraVe on Tuesday, June 4th. I followed these 3 steps above and put the CeraVe all over my face, heavier application on my cheeks and side of my nose where the burn marks were and went to bed. Woke up this morning, Wed, June 5th and without even washing my face, I noticed immediately that the flakes had reduced and they were falling off! Washed my face with the Aveeno Scrub and more came off. My cheeks and nose was not hurting, it was calm, felt soft and nourished! I AM SO IMPRESSED with CERAVE. I can't believe it worked so fast and effectively. My husband looked at my face and said "It looks much better" #and this is a man of few words#!! I know my comment/story was long but had to be thorough from beginning to end for you to get a better understanding of my experience and why I rated the product the way I did. Like I mentioned, not sure what I had, dry skin, sun burn or if it was due to the skin lightener I used. In summary, I'm going to continue this process until my face returns to its normal state. I think CeraVe will be my new daytime moisturizer - it doesn't clog your pores, makes your skin feel soft and smooth, and in my opinion its great healing source for burns, dryness, flaky skin, etc. For only $12 at beats a trip to a dermatologist and paying a co-pay of $25-50, right? So TRY IT, seriously doubt that you'll be disappointed. A. Best Moisturizer I've Ever Used!

I never write reviews, but I love this product so much that I had to share how I feel about it. I have chronic acne-prone skin, and this past winter was horrible for my skin. It dried my face out so much that I ended up breaking out all over my face. My face was red, rough, irritated, flaky, and dry. I had been using another moisturizing cream, and it provided only temporary relief after cleansing. Nothing helped fix the problem even though I cut out any harsh cleansers I had been using. So I switched over to this moisturizer and it was LIFE-CHANGING! I am so happy with this product, and I'm never going back. This is the first product I've used from CeraVe, and I wish I had tried their skincare products sooner. I've used more than half the tub of moisturizing cream since I started using it about 8 months ago. The cost is very good for the amount of product you get because it lasts a really long time. This moisturizer doesn't just give temporary relief. I felt my dry skin getting softer and smoother. I attribute that to the ceramides in this product, which actually help heal the skin barrier. It doesn't make me break out, which I know is a big concern as someone who has acne. It's a heavy cream, so it's perfect at night. I have combination skin (usually the dryness is in places were I've had acne breakouts/congestion and oiliness in the T-zone). If you have oily skin, I don't recommend using it during the day (I've tried and it'll just make you look extra oily). But on the days you aren't really going anywhere you can use it in the morning as well. I still use this at night even during the summer to give my skin extra moisture. Overall it's a great product. Way better than any expensive high-end moisturizer. I love that it's non-comedogenic and doesn't have fragrance. Great for any kind of skin! user

Good, Basic Moisturizer

I have trouble using moisturizers from American drugstores. They tend to make most of my face greasy while still leaving dry patches, and I just end up breaking out. CeraVe is one of the few gems I have found throughout the years. It is very basic. There is no color or scent, but it gets the job done. My skin absorbs it in a way that I still feel like I have SOMETHING on my face left, so I feel like I have thoroughly moisturized. Some days CeraVe is not enough for the areas around my mouth and nose (I have combination-dry skin), but I find that using one or two extra layers on those areas usually fixes that problem. I did not like the look of the sticker on the tub because it just looked so generic and dull, so I took it off and it looks very simple yet cute sitting on my makeup drawer! Overall, I would really recommend this for people who have sensitive skin but do not want to spend tons of money on a sufficient moisturizer.I would give this product a "10" because it is so good for how inexpensive it is, but it did not have any "wow!" factor to it. It is simple and very functional, but there is nothing spectacularly special about it ("first world problems").ScentThere really is no scent, so it can't offend anyone.AbsorptionIt's not like those super-lightweight moisturizers that absorb into your skin immediately. However, I kind of like that because I feel like there is a non-greasy layer of protection and moisture on my skin.EffectivenessI still get dry patches around my mouth sometimes, but this product does not irritate my skin at all and it get the job done for the most part. « less user

So I was in the process of switching birth control and in that in between time my skin went crazy. (ladies I'm sure you can understand) Crazy cystic acne which led to acne scars and dark spots. So I decided to try some high end products to save my skin... which contained a lot of glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids. Which worked unit I over did it and it completely irritated and ruined my skin. Which led to blotchy, peeling, dry, and oily skin... my cheeks were really dry, but every where was just super oily and greasy. Along with a slight rash and small red spots all over face and my acne returned! I mean my skin was awful this was all over my face and I didn't know what to do... And normally my skin is just extremely oily with some acne when it's that time of the month, but other than that it's pretty fine. So i did some research and found this. And let me tell you this saved my skin. All I did every night was use a gently cleanser and then used this on my face for a week.... and my skin was almost back to normal within that one week. I've used high end moisturizers to try and save my skin and this is the only thing that helped in such a short amount of time. A lot of people can be afraid of how thick it is thinking it might break you out, I was one of those people, but trust me it doesn't. I have oily skin and this absorbed like a sponge. My acne was slowly disappearing, the rash went away, those small little red bumps went away, I mean my skin was clearing up and it was because of this. I don't know what I would've done without this product. My new holy grail. Thank you cerave. Less

Lately my skin has been acting up. Dry all the time, peeling around my mouth and near my nose/under eye. With that being said I also started to breakout along my jawline and chin area. Bad enough I’m trying to get rid of my dark spots but now I’m trying to get my breakout and dry skin due to the weather I suppose under control. I switched to witch hazel toner since the other toner I was using was drying out my skin now that it’s winter time and I recently bought ponds moisturizer that I use in the morning before I go to work but I want something at night while I sleep. I am trying out my husband clean & clear dual moisturizer to see if it helps. Do you ladies have any other suggestions that’s affordable, won’t clog pores, and good for acne prone skin? Even oils would help as well.

Anyone know about a good drugstore (or drugstore price) moisturizer for dry sensitive skin that’s fragrance free? I recently used to use Glossier’s priming moisturizer then moved to using Embryolisse lait creme concentrate but lately I’ve been extra sensitive to fragrance I tried CeraVe’s moisturizing cream and works great on my body but it performs terribly on my face, then currently I’m using Simple’s replenishing ultra rich moisturizer for dry skin but it just seems to evaporate on my face (I try to overcompensate with face oil and my sunscreen but it’s still not enough/right)
