Should have tried it sooner

I've used bare minerals for over five years now, convinced my skin was sensitive and easily irritated by anything else. I stuck with it, and never even considered trying a new powder. This was basically an impulse buy, I didn't plan on buying a new powder but I had read the reviews and thought I'd try it in the store. I was so surprised I immediately bought it (despite the price!!), and have found it to be even better than I originally thought. Totally worth the money!I have very fair, combination skin and some imperfections and bumps on my cheeks and forehead, and I was convinced only a liquid, full-coverage foundation would conceal it. At the same time, I don't like wearing heavy foundation everyday, so I just brush on some bare minerals which never covered it, and left my skin looking greasy after just 15 minutes. I tried on this powder and somehow it completely concealed my uneven skin. By "Flawless", they really mean it! Every imperfection was gone. Using a sponge with powder was new for me, but I found it gave me the heavier coverage I needed in problem areas, while using a brush left a perfect, matte finish. It's long lasting, and doesn't look powdery, like it's sitting on top of your skin, like bare minerals does. The most important part, though, is that after just two days of using this, the bumps and imperfections in my skin have completely disappeared, even when I'm not wearing any makeup. I didn't change anything about my skincare/makeup routine other than switching to this foundation. Somehow, bare minerals was causing the problems in my skin, and I never realized it until I tried this! I never would have guessed the "natural" foundation would irritate my skin, but Hello Flawless ended up clearing my skin! It's win - win in my book. I'll never go a day without it!Now I'm hooked on Benefit and have found their products totally worth the money (coming from someone who doesn't splurge on beauty products). I plan on trying their Some Kind-A Gorgeous for a little extra coverage under this powder. « less

Lives up to the hype!

I normally don't review products that already have a ton of reviews, but I am so amazed that this lives up to its hype I just have to. After trying a TON of foundations that didn't work for me, I thought this was going to be another letdown. It's not!! My main gripe was powder foundation being too cakey and powdery (and illuminating every hair on my face 10 fold), or liquid foundation not applying smoothly to my skin and making my dry patches even more flakey (despite moisturizing before, during, after, and using every type of applicator). This does neither! Applied with the sephora professional #45 mineral foundation brush, this covers flaws perfectly, feels velvety, is never too heavy (but you can definitely build coverage), does not increase my oil production any more than usual, and does not make the dry patches around my nose and chin any worse. I am also using less concealer on my spots of redness because you can use the sponge provided for spot coverage and it works well. Long story short- I love it!I was previously using Laura Mercier's mineral foundation, and while I actually really liked it, it just made my skin a little too luminous. This might not be an issue for many, but being as I have super oily skin, I don't need any more shine. I also think it accentuated my dry patches, I was always applying a bit of moisturizer afterwards. My skin is super oily all year round, but I also get the aforementioned dry patches. I'd say since the age of 27 or so my skin has started changing (now 29), and my standard liquid foundation just stopped working for my skin type. It was very frustrating. I will say this does not control my oil, but nothing does so that does not make me like it any less. If your skin is very finicky like mine, definitely give this a chance. I absolutely did not expect this to be as great as everyone made it out to be. My only fear is that it will run out quickly as other reviewers have said, I can see that happenning since I use it every day. « less user

This is my everyday foundation.

Of the prestige and budget foundations I've tried, this one is my favorite. I have dry-oily combo skin with a moderate amount of acne and scars, and this foundation has the finish and pigmentation to cover that up. You can apply with the brush it comes with for a lightweight look and feel, or layer with the brush and sponge (that it comes with) for stronger coverage. I like that this foundation comes in a variety of undertones; im fair-skinned, but I have more of a yellow-beige undertone than pink...most brands only have fair shades available in pink undertones which look gross on me, but but I wear Benefit's Petal, which is a great match for me. (That said, I've never bothered to look for other skin tones, but for fair yellow-beige folks, they've got a match!) The only thing I don't like about this foundation is the cost; I go through one compact a month, and at $35ish, it's like a regular bill! But when I switched to a budget brand compact powder, I found I had to layer more to get my desired pigmentation, and I was going through the cheap stuff faster all while bogging down my skin. About a month after switching back to this stuff, my acne calmed down much more, probably because I don't have to apply too much. All in all, this is a great everyday foundation if you have combination skin with moderate acne, looking for medium coverage. « less

okay for light coverage

i received a sample of this from a sephora purchase, and it looked great when i tried it. so i decided to purchase it.about my skin, i have olive toned skin that gets oily and shiney fast on the t-zone area. i have light rosacea so my cheeks are always pink and i have veins just above my jawline. i also have huge pores around my nose and chin.unfortunately, it wasn't as great as i thought it was.building coverage with this powder left my face cakey and obviously dusted with powder. so if you're looking for light coverage, this would look best.the brush that came with it was awful and ended up just moving powder around.i have an oily t-zone....with most foundations, i can go maybe 3 hours until i need to blot the shine off, with "Hello Flawless" i was shiny within 20 mins. its not an ideal image to be touching up your make-up or blotting shine every half hour. it was disappointing. it also settled into the lines under my eyes, because i had to pile on layers just to get a good i'm just saying, its not the powder foundation for me. « less

The best I've used so far

I got this powder because the reviews were good and because of the SPF in it. I just finished my entire compact (after it cracked, I might add...I didn't even drop it, it just slowly broke apart after a small dip started forming in the center from daily use). I have very light skin with faded freckles, light acne scars, and broken capillaries around my nose and I chose the lightest shade, "Me, Vain?" Champagne. As far as powder foundations go, this is the best one I've tried so far and the only one I've ever finished.First things first: the included brush and sponge are terrible, just throw them away. I used my Bare Escentuals foundation brush (which I hate, but it works) to lightly sweep the powder over my liquid sunscreen and concealer to just mattify my look a little. I like that you can easily build up your coverage with this powder. My skin has drier patches so I could really only do a light layer, but on days when I was hydrated and needed more coverage, I could easily buff a little more onto my skin and it still looked natural. I couldn't use this under my eyes to set my concealer because it settles into the fine lines and dry spots under my eyes and just makes it look like a cakey mess, though I'm not sure if that's because of this powder or my dry eyes or concealer choice. As for the capillaries around my nose...I usually just used the foundation, no concealer or anything else to avoid cakiness, and this powder did a good job of dulling down the redness. The capillaries were never totally concealed but I can tell you that I never go out anywhere without dipping a small concealer brush into this powder and putting it around my nose; it really worked to cover my capillaries that much. Some other thoughts: the powder never broke me out, I could easily put it over my oily skin as well as bad zits and not have them worsen. I wouldn't rely on this powder for your daily SPF though; SPF 15 isn't really that much and if you use a light layer like I did I doubt you'd get anywhere near the necessary coverage. It's not a heavy powder, it feels very comfortable to have it on for 12+ hours (although I only used a light layer). I touch up 2 or 3 times a day just to refresh my look, but that's because I live in Florida and just feel better when I touch up. It has very portable packaging, although the plastic part that clicks the compact closed broke on mine. As for the cracks and eventual shattering, almost every powder compact I've used has eventually broken due to daily use.Overall, I liked this powder and used it until it was gone. I get bored with cosmetics easily so I'm currently looking for a new powder, but I haven't found anything I like as much as this. I would definitely repurchase again and I highly recommend this product.A Sephora employee once told me that if you were to only use Benefit products correctly, your face would look flawless...I'm inclined to believe that's true. :) « less
