Revolutionary makeup

Bare Escendtuals' new matte foundation is the product I've been looking for all my life. I have disgustingly oily skin that makes my face shine like a solar panel. After trying so many products that promised the moon I finally found one that delivers real results.Staying power: Normally about 3 hours after I apply my makeup oil starts to seep through. After 4-5 hours my entire face (not just my T-zone) looks like the Exxon-Valdez oil spill. After 8 hours my make-up is sliding off of my face. Using BM Matte foundation I don't see any shine on my face until around 6 hours after I apply. My face only gets really shiny after about 8 hours. Then I simply apply some blotting powder, and I'm set for another 3 hours or so. This makeup truly lasts all day. Out of the zillions of other "mattifying" products I've tried this is the *only* one that works.Coverage: Like most mineral makeups, BM Matte provides a light to medium coverage. It evens skin tone and minimizes pores, but for larger blemishes like pimples or scars you definitely need some concealer.Application: BM Matte is easy to apply. I recommend using their oil-control primer in order to prep your skin. Apply primer, and allow 1-2 minutes to dry. Then use a thick soft brush (I use a Kabuki brush) and follow the instructions. Be sure not to apply too much otherwise your make up will look powdery. Mineral makeup has to "settle in" so to speak, so start slow. Mineral make-up can be somewhat annoying because it gets everywhere. I'm usually very careful not to let any spill, but somehow I usually find tiny hills of powder on my counter. I do love the new locking system that prevents all of the powder from spilling out if you carry the container in your purse.Finish: BM Matte provides an excellent finish that makes my skin radiant and matte. It doesn't, however, give you that air-brushed look like liquid foundation or anything with heavier coverage. However, it does look way more natural.Color: BM creates enough shades that it's easy to match your foundation to your skin type. Their lightest color is a lot lighter than many other foundations, so fair-skinned ladies rejoice. Their colors are very easy to blend so you can get just the right shade. I use fair and fairly light, and I no longer have to worry about that hideous line that divides my face from my neck. One thing to watch out for is that the foundation does become a bit orange from oxidizing. However, this is easily fixed by blotting powder. I use a medium tone blotting powder, and it makes my foundation looks perfect again.Skin-friendly: I can't vouch for the quality of the ingredients or their ability to clear up your skin, but I can say that BM is a lot better for your skin than most foundations. It's light so it doesn't clog pores, and you don't get that heavy feeling at the end of the day like you've got mud on your face. I really love the fact that it protects your skin from the sun, because sun-block clogs my pores like nothing else (not to mention it makes my face even *oilier*). However, you do have to be careful because it does dry your skin out a little. Your face naturally produces oil in order to keep it moisturized, so the lack of oil created from the matte finish means your skin will dry (especially if you use the oil-control primer). However, the drying is not as severe as many acne-fighting products, so I simply started applying moisturizer in the morning as well as at night and I don't have a problem. « less

I'd give it ZERO STARS if I could...

Oh boy, where to begin on this one? It's hands down the worst makeup product I have ever purchased. EVER. I purchased it because I eat fairly healthy and use mostly toxin-free makeup and skin care products. This was basically the last transition I needed to get all of my makeup to "natural." For reference, I have fair, normal-to-dry skin. I am lucky to have clear skin and small pores. That said, this makeup made me look worse with makeup than without. I didn't know that was possible. I thought most makeup enhanced your features. I prefer the "I'm wearing makeup but I don't LOOK like I'm wearing makeup" look. Instead, I had cakey makeup and after about an hour I was a greasy mess. Not sure how--I have dry skin, so it did adhere to dry patchy areas, but the rest looked oily (not illuminated--great natural product for that "glow" is RMS Beauty Living Luminizer). On top of that, it clings to every hair on your face (and I spent time "buffing"). My skin also appeared sallow and grayish after it oxidized. The powder enhanced any possible line on my face that I never even knew I had and creased like crazy on my eyelids, around my mouth, etc. I only wear a tinted moisturizer for special occasions, and wear a powder for my normal makeup routine. I have NEVER had that level of creasing before with either product. It also caused me to break out a little on my chin and forehead. At the same time, I was itchy around my jawline. I gave this product two weeks, and even went back to purchase the BM brush to apply "normal coverage." (I thought maybe my Sephora brush wasn't cutting it.) No, this is just a horrible, horrible product. On top of how bad it looked, this powder is a mess. I followed the directions, placing a small amount in the cap, swirling the brush, and tapping/blowing off excess. You will have powder all over your bathroom counter and sink. As someone who doesn't wear a ton of makeup and prefers a simple 5-minute makeup routine, this added too much time and cleanup for my liking. I returned the foundation powder and the brush. « less

Finally found the perfect foundation

I have been looking for the perfect foundation for my shade and skin tone forever. I use to use Prescriptives Custom Blend (bespoke makeup) which is made for you for many years until they went out of business. I tried just about everything and settled on Mac. I have problematic skin, the texture is rough and uneven and I have a great many blemishes and dark pigmentation which is something black people can suffer with. I wear foundation every day and it would take me 20 minutes every morning just applying concealer and foundation to cover up all the discolouration. WELL now it takes me only around 3 minutes to apply foundation and highlighter. I can't believe how this foundation (I use Original SPF in warm dark has totally changed my life. My face looks so smooth and bright and it covers every single blemish with me just using a tiny amount. I have never found a foundation that matches my skin tone so closely not even the prescriptives. I used to dream about having the skin that I now have and cried when I first put it on and my sister told me that my skin looked flawless and how perfect the shade was as she knows how depressed and demoralised I felt because of my skin. It is just so easy to apply I bought the full size kabuki brush and so apply it with that. It goes on like an absolute dream with such little effort and apart from a couple of touch-ups during the day, (necessary as I have long loose hair and it tends to wipe my make up off# pretty much stays intact for the working day. I never go dry or looked caked. I originally bought the matte version and hated it as found it too dry for me and flat and it lacked luminosity which the original version has .I ended up buying it from Selfridges as they were the only ones happy to give samples for you to take away and try. Samples were hard to come by as to me you really need to see how it wears all day/what it looks like at different times of the day/what happens when it oxidizes with your natural face oils etc. I went to Debenhams and John Lewis and was told both times that they don't do samples so I ended up buying the golden dark as it was applied in store and thought it looked good until the next morning when I put it on at home and looked as if I had been tangoed, way too orange for my skin shade. So a costly mistake as I then went back two days later #Selfridges this time) and purchased the correct shade after using samples for 2 days, which they happily supplied. True some people are just looking for a bit of free supply and have no intention of buying but you should be able to work out who is genuine and if not to err on the side of giving samples. If the product is amazing and BM certainly is that, you should give samples and let people go home and try for themselves, away from the store lights and persuasive sale techniques. Apart from the sample issue this makeup is truly amazing and I will never ever go back to liquid foundation. Plus my skin seems to be clearing up and has never looked better. I'm blown away by all the pros of this makeup. I really can't find one downside to the actual product. Everyone should give it a try but as have read on here getting the correct brush is key. I don't use the primetime and it still works amazingly well for me as always find primers too dry for my skin, but that's just me. I also don't use the tinted veil powder and use my Ben Nye powders which are really fine and works well with the BM. Less

THE ORIGINAL MINERAL FOUNDATION!!!

Product: Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Foundation in Light (25.00 for 0.28 ounces)Shade: Sheer light golden cream>> This product speaks for itself. It's made from pure, crushed minerals straight from our planet. It feels like a cream because it's so finely milled, applied like a powder - but never looks caky, and makes the skin like you've layered silk on it. It's the makeup that feels and looks like no makeup - but your face will be perfected. It's made without Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Fragrances/Dyes, Petro-Chemicals, Phthalates. Parabens are said to lead to cancer in woman, while synthetic items are not healthy for the skin. It won't irritate the skin or cause breakouts, which is a relief to all ladies~! According to the statistics on Sephora 98% of woman said their skin looked softer, smoother, and younger. 90% saw IMPROVEMENT in their SKIN with continuous use - a foundation that makes you not need to use foundation. 93% noticed that their skin looked more radiant!>> So, what's my true opinion? I have 2 containers of this foundation, both mini sized. (10 Day Full Face Samples from Sephora.) They have lasted me for a year of light usage from day to day. (Not everyday of course, maybe 2-3 weeks of full face usage if you add it up.) What I'm trying to get at is this stuff lasts. The samples - that were free - lasted a good time for being a sample. I don't have the full size product, I want to get it, but I can bet you that it will last just as long. Obviously longer because it's bigger! Another nice thing is that it comes in so many different shades. I always feel annoyed when I look at a foundation and think, wow. There's 5 shades, and they're all for pale skinned girls. Really, leaving people out in makeup! Not cool! Being light skinned, I don't have a lot of problems, but some of my best friends have olive and darker skin. It's not fair that they can't use my favorite foundation, especially if we have the same skin type. This foundation comes in 20 shades, so any girl can find their perfect fit.>> Besides that this foundation is certified organic it feels just plain good on the skin. I like to buff this on with a Kabuki Brush (small, dense, face brush.) for perfect application. The key to awesome looking skin is to begin by getting a chunk of product on the brush. Now swirl the brush in the cap to get a thin layer of powder on each bristle. Then, tap on the side of the cap so the excess falls in, and voila! You have a brush with the perfect amount of powder evened out. It has light to medium coverage, depending how much you layer it. It works good on girls who have redness, light blemishes, light acne scars, un-even skin tone, etc. If you have bad acne, and dark acne scars this might not be the best for you. But don't feel down! Apply your favorite foundation on first, and then apply this on top. It leaves anything powdery and fake with a soft natural glow. Of course, no sparkle.>> The packaging on this is simple and sleek. The bottom is clear so you can see how much foundation you have, the and the top is matte black. To finish, this foundation has sunscreen, something every girl needs. Obviously you want to apply a sunscreen prior to foundation (apply a separate one for more protection of course!) but this adds a little more strength.Effectiveness: 10/10Value: 10/10Packaging: 8/10Ease Of Use: 10/10Overall: 10/10Grade: A+Love this product all around - it's a great buy! « less

Perfect colour Original powder foundation

Wow it was such a long debate which colour to choose even after the colour guide. It was either Golden Ivory or Light. The colours in the pictures look the same.. im guessing Light 08 is darker than Golden Ivory, none of the less Golden Ivory tested a near perfect math to my skin but with a warm yellow tint to help combat my redness and paleness (I do not tan my face any more and it never sees the sun so unfortunately it looks very washed out compared to the rest of my faux tanned body). So I use foundation to even out my tone so I have to have some warmth and not go totally true to the pale -however I do have natural yellow undertone which is weird because I’m a natural blue eyed ash dark blonde Scandinavian. No pink or neutral cool tone here. I find if I lean towards Asian fair yellow, this counteracts my blotchiness and gives me a luminecesent glow. I read also that as you age, you want to lean more to yellow undertone as well to counteract a dulling tone when your skin thins showing more blue (veins). I’m a hot looking young looking 41yr old that looks 34-35. If you are having trouble choosing online, go to a Sephora and test out the colours. I didn’t have time but I’ve also bought BM orig foundation in the past so I thought I could wing it not realizing they changed the names or discontinued my old colour. Not sure. But that’s ok because I seemed to be in between the other Light W15 and I think Golden light. This one looks (only tried it on my cheek and neck and around my mouth so far and it melts in well colour-wise) like my perfect shade. Too light I look like a ghost and too dark I loose my glow. Regardless ladies, you need to contour your cheeks etc to complete a natural look or at least use blush. Foundation alone is just a base, at least at my age! It can look rather flat without a light bronzer and blush. That’s the key. Anyway this foundation has a great glow. I find looks best. Matte is great for oily skin but as you age a bit of glow looks dewy and youthful. Not shimmer, not sparkle. But this foundation has a very look like your own skin, sheen. But don’t apply too much or it looks too heavy or fake. After your moisturizer or primer has soaked in or dried -make sure with oil blotter papers) work a small amount in at a time by tapping abs swirling. A little goes a long way so you can layer appropriately. That’s how this foundation works best. It’s not dry. Doesn’t crease. It feels silky and hydrating. Buy a kubuki or cropped powder foundation brush works best. Don’t use a wide all over powder brush. Wrong brush and you’ll be wasting your foundation falling out of it. A sponge or puff does not work for this. You must get a good brush and keep it clean! They can carry bacteria from old skin cells and oil to make you break out. Get a brush cleaner spray and then wash the brush once or twice a month depending on how often you use it. A clean brush also applies the powder better. So with all this a tip for BM online shopping, please please please set up the up close photo of the foundation powder colour to be able to compare SIDE by SIDE another colour. This would greatly help in choosing the right colour. Because it takes me forever going back and forth quick to compare and still that’s hard. « less

Hi! So I’m trying to find products to better help my foundation stay on and stay matte. I have very oily skin and have tried so many different foundations and have tried mattifying primers too. They either make me breakout or they just flat out don’t work. I’ve even tried the IL Makiage ‘find your perfect shade’ foundation, it’s better for summer and when I’m more tan, but it most definitely didn’t live up to its promise of staying even after using a mattifying primer. I’m also trying to look for products that aren’t crazy expensive.

If i’m gonna be totally honest, I have not found one matte foundation perfect for my skin yet so what I do is I tried buying some translucent powder to make my foundation @Face Tape Foundation look matte and it honestly works perfect for me! Some translucent powders that i’ve bought to try is @Loose Setting Powder , @Secret Brightening Powder , and the @Loose Powder Matte Foundation SPF 15 !! And let me share a secret with you...i got the bare minerals “powder matte foundation” at tjmaxx for $10 instead of paying for full price😊 I hope my answer helps!!

So I don’t like to wear liquid foundation but I love the look of powder. Can y’all give me any recommendations of a powder foundation for dry skin? I was using the Maybelline SuperStay one but it seemed a bit patchy. I was looking at the Benefit Hello Happy Powder but I’m not sure if it’s for dry skin.

Does anybody know of a long wear, medium coverage foundation that doesn’t separate on oily areas?

Love this foundation, I’m extremely oily and as long as I blot throughout the day it doesn’t break up. I work 10+ hrs a day in a poorly ventilated area - this holds ups and doesn’t break me out. Hope this helps!
