Obsessed

I've been using this palette for a few weeks now, and I gotta say... I AM OBSESSED! The color scheme is beautiful. There are lots of fun looks you can create with this palette. The colors are highly pigmented and easy to blend. I have worn some looks from this palette out with some setting spray and they still held up 10-12 hours later with no creasing. I can't get that kind of life out of my UD palettes. However, there are some downsides to this palette, but I don't necessarily find them to be deal breakers. The first one is the packaging. It's really cheap cardboard. I was rather underwhelmed when I took it out of the box and really examined it for the first time. The second thing I noticed when I first used the palette is that the amount of fallout is quite hefty. I will say that I quickly figured out that I could work around that. The shadows are highly pigmented, so you don't need to be heavy-handed when dipping your brushes into your pans. A very light dab will go a long way. I have noticed using a light hand and building up the coverage really brings the look together with minimal fallout. The final thing I wasn't a fan of is the brush. Of course, most brushes in palettes are trash, so that's not even a real concern. With that all in mind, I definitely do recommend this palette. Less

Unashamed to say I LOVE this palette

I made 110% sure I received an authentic Subculture palette and first of all the color of the packaging is beautiful. The whole aesthetic and color story of Subculture is so unique and uncommon to see in eyeshadow palettes these days where nude and warm shades dominate. Thats no shade to those colors. Theyre mostly what I wear! But I was longing for something different and more colorful since I dont have many pops of color in my collection. But not gaudy colors. I love these shades because theyre colorful, but they all have this antique, grungy hue to them if that makes sense and theyre more wearable. The colors of the shadows actually look richer and more pigmented than the hundreds of photos and videos that are out there showing this palette. After watching all the horrible reviews, I knew to not go in rough with the brush. Just one or two light taps in each shadow gets enough pigment on the brush without making a powdery mess on the palette. When you whack the brush after dipping, there is of course fallout but no worse than Modern Renaissance. Mercury is particularly buttery and loose though but nothing that cant be made workable. The key is to know these colors are touchy before using them and to know COLOR THEORY - at least a basic understanding. Dont blend purple into yellow or orange into blue and youll be fine. The whole reason I got this palette was to make some Fall, pumpkiny looks and boy did it achieve that. My favorite shades are Edge and Electric. Edge is the PERFECT mustard yellow that blends so well over the whole eye and can be blended into New Wave for a beautiful orangey-yellow pumpkin vibe. Pair that with Destiny and Untamed to really complete the Fall look. The only two colors Im wary of are All Star and Rowdy just because they are super cold, dense purples and have no warmth to them. So thats why if you blend those with almost any of the other colors which are mostly warm, youll get a muddy, grey mess. They clash too much. So if I want a dark burgundy shade that isnt too cold to use with the oranges, I use Mulberry from Soft Glam. If Subculture included Mulberry instead of All Star it would be a perfect palette in my opinion. Unlike Soft Glam or Modern Renaissance in which you cant really go wrong with whatever shades you pair together, with Subculture, you need to plan ahead and think about what colors you need to use for the look you want. You might be able to get away with putting two complimentary colors next to each other as long as you dont blend them together. Thats when the colors start to get muddy. To me, this little caution in using this palette isnt a drawback, but evidence that ABH really went outside of the box and made a palette that includes such a wide range of colors that you can get multiple COMPLETELY different looks from in just one palette. They include a useful matte nude shade called Dawn to sort of set the whole eye or crease to prepare for the rest of the application and I really appreciate that. From there, you can create a pretty neutral brown or peachy look for everyday wear with the shades Roxy and Fudge and highlight with Cube which has a gorgeous pink shift to it. You can glam that up with Adorn all over the lid and darken the crease with All Star. Now youve got a nighttime look. You can do just a yellow-orange sunset look with Dawn, New Wave, Edge, and Roxy. You can do a completely green look which is rare to see with Destiny, Untamed, and Electric. Or a blue look with Axis, Electric, and Rowdy. You see where Im going here? This palette, contrary to popular opinion, is versatile and cohesive if you know what colors go well together. Performance was great for me but then again I barely pressed my brushes into the shadows. All the shades I tried applied evenly and with no patchiness. Blending was nothing extra hard to accomplish with Subculture. Just with the super dark shadows, use the smallest amount possible at first and then build up if needed. A little goes a long way. Its also worth getting this palette just for Electric. Its the most stunning, unique shimmer shade and is a wonderful change from using the typical frosty white for inner corner highlights. It has this green and orange duo chrome shift that Ive never seen in a shadow before and I was able to apply it easily with a small packing brush without needing to use my finger. My fear is that using my finger too often will seal the shadow like others have had happen to them so for the shimmers, Im trying to only use the brush. I do use glitter glue for my inner corners to ensure its going apply densely and stay all day. In all, I recommend this palette for people who have been using eyeshadow for a long time. Its not a palette Id recommend for beginners or someone who just wants to create neutral looks. If youre craving a different and unique color story for your collection, youve found it. Less

Amazing Quality

Such an amazing palette! I was a bit late to buy this since I've never been much of an eyeshadow person, but I've kept looking at it every time I've stepped inside a makeup store so I ended up buying it a few weeks ago. Let me just say that I only wish I would've done it sooner! The pigmentation of this palette is unlike what I've seen before, and I adore all the shades. They have very little fall out and blends amazingly with the right brush. If you're looking for something that will work both for going out on the weekends and for work, this is perfect. It's versatile, doesn't crease and lasts all day long. I've had a lot of fun playing around with it and am super happy to have such a nice, high quality palette.

What a beautiful palette from Anastasia. I only have a few palettes that I grab for everyday and this is one of them. I create very wearable for-work looks as well as glammed up looks for the evening - the colors layer really well. The mattes are very blendable and just make sure you tap off the excess off your brush to reduce fallout. I really love the shimmers and this photo does not really show off how beautiful they are in person. I apply with my fingers to get the best color payoff and they stay put! I tend to do a half cut crease and the shimmers stick really well to the concealer. The black is VERY pigmented and can get messy if you don't apply carefully. I tend to line my eye with it and create a short wing and it works great. I use a wet flat liner brush and pack it onto my lash line and that works great as well - just don't overdo it or it can transfer to the lower lash line. Its a versatile palette that is good to have in any collection. Less

Will Be Returning

I purchased this palette a few days ago. I didn't get a chance to play with it until this past weekend, but I will be returning it. This palette is shockingly bad. I have tan/olive skin and Cindy, Bear and Chai did not show up on my skin at all. The mattes Stev and Bybel were very patchy and were very difficult to blend. I was most excited about Mandala, but I laughed when I tried to apply it (yes I used eye primer). It was difficult to apply and looked nothing like the color from the swatches I saw from ABH and Carli. I did like the pigmentation on Jode, OA, and My Angels, but there was a lot of fall out. Although My Angels was more of an antique gold, those three shimmers were colors I've already seen. The shades I didn't list weren't memorable. Although I only use the brush provided in a palette only during a pinch, this brush was scratchy and awful. The UD Naked palette brushes in comparison are great, and the palettes cost around the same amount. I'm surprised that ABH/Carli would put a palette out that is such poor quality. The color story is odd and many of the colors don't show up or work for me (I have gold undertones and am tan/olive skinned). I don't know how the swatches online looked good, but the palette I purchased performs worse than many drugstore palettes/quads I've used. This palette is a skip, and I think if I buy an ABH palette again, it's going to be the Jackie Aina one. Less

The modern renaissance from ABH is a classic with everyday shades and in my opinion worth the money! But if you want something more cost-friendly basically any eyeshadow from colourpop is gonna be a win
